if you put another in the base and it charges , it is the other base that is not working make sure that that holder is connected properly to a power point if it is charging the small red light on the hand piece comes on

Cell phones may have the same symbols. A second possibility is almost self-explanatory. Some phones actually show something like "spkr," to indicate the button to press. Also be advised that these buttons may have a tendency to stick in one position. Just keep pressing the button until you have it in the posion you want.

you need to program it to what you want. I have mine set up for the answering machine to pick up after the 4th ring.It was very easy to do,but I've had this phone for so many years now,don't remember how to do it. The manuel tells you how to program tho:)
