Toshiba REGZA 42 in. Flat-Panel LCD HDTV - Page 4 Questions & Answers
No Picture on Toshiba 42RV530U
I had a similar problem to this yesterday. Tv is same Toshiba model as you mentioned about 4 months old. In my case, after the TV working perfectly following installation, the standby LED on the front (the one that is red on standby and green when on) went to a flashing orange (after switching on from standby) and the picture disappeared although the sound remained OK. I was unable to get any response from the setup or menu on the remote, otherwise I would have tried resetting the TV. Regardless of how much switching off/on (including disconnecting the powerlead and leaving for few minutes), disconnecting all peripherals, etc., nothing helped. I looked up Toshiba's web site and under support they basically suggest switching off the TV and restarting using the onset buttons (not the remote) and pressing the menu button (again the one on the set (not the remote) and if you could get the menu box to appear then reset to default settings. I tried this but the results were the same. I therefore thought the TV was defective. However, after much frustration I did the following (I think): 1) Disconnect everything from the TV 2) Powered up from the mains switch whilst keeping BOTH the startup and menu buttons on the side of the TV pressed down. The result in my case was that the standby led and one of the two beside it flashed green simultaneously. However, when the buttons were released, the TV started up the same (flashing LED orange and sound no picture). 3) Pretty well defeated at this point, after doing the procedure at (2) several times with the same results, I somehow thought of pressing the standby button on the remote either whilst the two buttons on the set were depressed or just after they were released. I am afraid I cannot remember which and cannot replicate the problem as I don't know what caused it in the first place. 4) The TV then started normally ( no reception as I had not aerial connected, etc.,) but I was able to gain access to the screen menu/setup buttons via the remote which were in French rather than English. However, after reconnecting everyrthing the TV has worked fine (obviously after resetting the language via the menu). I am sorry I cannot be more precise but I hope this might be of help to someone with a similar problem.

When I turn on the TV, the sound is turned all the way up.
If the problem is same with different input devices and you have ensured there are no loose contacts in power outlet, RC jack, cable and sockets, the TV needs servicing. You might also ensure that no buttons (keys) on the remote and/or on the control panel is stuck.
My toshiba lost it audio, I finally set the closed captioning on
Closed captions can be either in the set or a box if used--look in both places. As far as sound look to see in set if speakers are switched OFF or ON.both issues can be in the set or a box---last resort is unplug both set and box for a while and replug to see if a reboot will help.
Timer rec is blinking how do i shut it off
Blinking light means set is in shutdown.I see so many here with no sound/nopicture issues:ISSUES: 1. IF sound main fuse/s are good.2. If no power or standby check main fuse, standby power supply and any signsof damage you can see---burnt parts etc.3. almost all these sets the troubleshooting involves
checking voltages on the main power board to narrow down theproblem.4. Be safe and if you do not know what you are doing don't open the set.Answers to issues:1. RE:fuses---if a blown fuse is found get a good replacement(not the genericones like Radio Shack). Many fuses are special even aside from amperage--Don'tput a higher rated amperage fuse in the set for any reason.2. RE: power supply in set: if total dead aside from main fuse the set uses astandby power supply that runs 7/24 and a main supply (some are combined andsome not. Here aside from checking fuses you want to examine all the filter caps on thepower/standby to see if any are puffed up or buldged up in some fashion--Iattach a photo of a good one---top should be silver metal and PERFECTLY flatand have no brown material coming out on top or bottom. What happens in the standby area is they use caps with too low a voltage rating(saves money) which causes them to fail in a year or two---the standby runs7/24 and the heat dries out the caps and they fail.3. Trouble shooting consists of the above and then at some point you have to buyand try a board to see if it fixes it or not.4. Safety first--no TV set is worth getting injured or even killed over.If set is opened at least look for puffed up and bad caps like in thisphoto.
Need new screen
Lines in the screen??? Usually it's not cost effective to replace a LCD screen. In most cases it's cheaper to buy a new TV
