You did not post any information on the make and model of the card reader. This is something that we need to know. You need to check the cables to reader and the server the reader is on.

Please use laptop having serial port if not available then purchase a new original usb to serial of famous brand like Siemens, Lenze, MITSUBISHI, local brands may not works.

The only way would be to take it to an electronics expert who can test the components. Or contact the maker for service.

you can use a card reader adapter

Most memory cards have a small recessed tab that you can slide to lock the card. There is usually a Lock switch on the left side of the SD card. Make sure the Lock switch is slid up (unlock position). You will not be able to modify or delete the contents on the memory card if it is locked. Try looking to see if your card has this feature and if it does slide it to the up or opposite position from where it is.

If you use a fast charger, or a power charger, that can be the cause of your trouble. I used to charge with different power chargers till I learned they push every battery over its limits. After at least 3 different power chargers and about 100 defective batteries, I now charge my batteries with normal slow chargers. When the drive is really defect nothing can help. But there are several programs you can try to find, to recover data from "defective" drives, cards or whatever. just google "Recover my files" and try one of the free applications to see if there is still something on the USB drive.

External cards or disks are almost impossible to make secure. You always can reformat and change the label. Are you sure you allow people to bring in external cards, they could have plugged in on other computers? Even computers they are not sure they don't contain viruses or malware? This is more dangerous than being connected to the net.

Mkv files to play correctly require quite powerful computer. Try mpg, MPEG codes but even those when used for high definition video my require some processing power.

Flash memory probably corrupted, you may need to format to get it useable, you will lose data but you can try a data recovery app which should retrieve most of the data even after formatting.
