First you need to check if the battery is okay, try it on another tom tom gps receiver, if it is working and the screen wont turn on, then it means there is a hardware problem, probably the flexi ribbon that is connected to the screen is either loose or bad, this will require you to disassemble the tom tom and check for the flexi ribbon that connects to the screen, then you resit it or change the ribbon, that should do the job.
You can also try to reset the tom tom first before disassembling it. By pressing and holding the power on/off button for about 15 seconds, if that does not do the job, then you can go ahead and disassemble the tom tom.

There is this problem with TomTom. Tom do not seem to overwrite the existing map file. So before trying to install the map, you need to delete the folder containing map. Once you have connected your TomTom to the computer, close the TomTom home window. Double click on my computer. You will see the TomTom hard drive as a drive (like you see the CD drive) double click on that . Once the folders of the TomTom hard drive opens, look for a folder named USA_Canada_and_Mexico_P. Right click on it. click properties. Check whether the size of this folder is approximately around 1.3 GB to 1.5 GB. This is just to make sure we have the correct folder. After confirming this is the map folder, copy this folder to your computer for back up purpose. Once you have it safely in your computer, delete this folder from the TomTom hardrive. Go back to TomTom home software. Use the map guarantee to update/Upgrade the new map. You will see this time around the installation completes without a problem.

After you have set up a home address, you can only change it, not delete it

The GPS technology was created for military purposes. Its civilian use has limitations such as no pinpoint accuracy. Also maps are being update all the time.

There should be a menu on your gps, and it should be a lang. settings on there. Under that menu than you can change it back to english.

The icon to change the language has three flags. Tap that and you will be prompted to select a new language.

The TomTom XL does not have text to speech. The TomTom XL-S does.

Go through the menu and you will see options for time or clock. It is probably set on 24 hr clock and this is why it is 12 hours out. If you have a choice of 12 or 24 then choose 12. If you have to use 24 hr ensure that you reset the time as 1300 hrs for 1pm,1400 hrs for 2pm etx.It will be shown as "time format"

Boot up your tt, tap the map screen, then tap change preferences (bottom far right icon next to the forward arrow), tap the forward arrow until you come to an icon with flags, tap the flags icon. You will then be able to set your language.
