To set up/Change time: Tap on main screen. Tap on change preferences. Tap on the arrow 5 times till you reach, Preferences 6 of 6 page. Tap on set clock. Select the way you want it to be displayed. Click done.
You can correct the time on the next screen using the up and down arrows. When you have the correct time click done.

These are a subscription item and must be paid for before you can download.

A few resons that a GPS will give this message. The first is just like it says.. are u in a concrete canyon expecting satellite connection?

The other is insufficient charge to the battery, it should be fully charged via the AC adaptor or the USB connection on the Laptop. Depending on age and number of recharges it may be that the battery is soggy and needs replacing. Only you, know that information.

Also a warning do not plug it into catr power and then start the engine, you will damage the IC chip and then it will never work again until you throw lots of money at it.

make sure you connect to your computer on a regular basis to download quickfixes as this helps to find sats quicker

According to the manual:

The easiest way to set the time is by tapping the Sync button. Your ONE XL will then take the time from the GPS information it receives.

try updating the software via tomtom home it should sort your problem out. that usually means that the software has become corrupt

if that doesn't work you can copy all the files out of the tomtom into a new folder then delete all the files and update again.

depending on the version of the unit there are a couple of things you can try.

1: look for a reset button underneath the device, if there is one press and hold it with a paperclip for 5 seconds
2: plug the unit into your PC and update the software via tomtom home if this doesn't work give tomtom a call and go through there troubleshooting tips

Do this whilst it is disconnect from a PC

Whilst it shows a map display touch the screen once.


Select the icon that looks like a spanner / wrench

Use the right arrow on the display until you see a bunch of flags. (if you shoot past it just keep going until it comes around again)

Touch that and select the correct the correct flag / language

5) The TomTom Home software will detect the GPS and check if there are any updates for it. Then you'll be offered updates to install. Some are free, some are not. Be sure you choose to update "QuickFix".

1) I think you could be mistaken. Most TomTom offers I have seen are some amount of money to be used ONLY towards a purchase on the TomTom website. Things could be different in your country, but I suggest you double check the offer. Details should be in your user guide.

2) You will need to register your TomTom. For this, you need to go to www.tomtom.com, select your country and click on the TOP RIGHT where it says "CREATE YOU ACCOUNT". Then, follow the instructions on the screen.

The easiest way to get maps is through "TomTom Home" software that you should have installed in your computer. If you don't have it, install it from www.tomtom.com and start TomTom Home. Then plug the GPS docking station to a USB port on your computer and place your GPS on the docking station. Turn the GPS on. If you are asked if you want to connect your GPS to the computer, answer YES. After the GPS is recognized by TomTom Home, you'll get a set of icons on the window screen. One of them should be labeled "get maps". Click on it. Most of the time, only a few maps will be shown. To get access to all the maps you can buy, choose "ALL" from the drop down menu that says "Recommended". Map prices vary by region, but in the USA we can purchase a map that contains Germany and a handful of other adjacent countries for about $90 US dollars.

Do you want to change the language of the VOICE or the WORDS IN THE SCREEN? These two are independent from each other and need to be set up by separate.

1) To change the VOICE, you need to download an ENGLISH VOICE.
a) Start TomTom Home on your computer.
b) Plug in the TomTom dock to a USB port on your computer and plug in your TomTom GPS on the dock
c) Turn on the GPS and when asked "connect to computer" answer "yes" (you may not be asked if you want to connect; TomTom Home amy detect your GPS and connect to it automatically). If your GPS is not connecting to TomTom Home, turn the GPS off, turn it upside down and press the "reset" button for 7 seconds, place the GPS back on the dock and turn it on. It should automatically connect to TomTom Home now.
d) On the TomTom Home software, click on the icon labeled "Add Traffic, Voice, cameras..."
e) Click on the icon labeled "voices"
f) Click on the icon labeled "computer voices"
g) Click on any of the voices that says "English" on the second ("language") column; download and install the voice
h) Go to the TomTom Home top menu and under "DEVICE" choose "DISCONNECT DEVICE". Wait a few seconds until the GPS communication with the computer is broken and the GPS restarts. You don't need the computer anymore for now
i) On your TomTOm GPS, tap on the middle of the screen to bring the menu.
j) Touch "CHANGE PREFERENCES"
k) Touch "VOICE PREFERENCES"
l) Touch "CHANGE VOICE"
m) Select any of the voices that are in English (such as "SUSAN, English US, Computer"). After this, you can TEST the voice. Check that you can hear the voice, otherwise, you'll need to adjust the volume. We'll do this later. Touch "SELECT" to select the voice. Press "DONE" on the next 3 screens until you're back to the GPS navigation screen
n) To change the volume, tap on the LOWER LEFT rectangle. You'll get a VOLUME SLIDE. Slide it to the RIGHT to increase the volume and to the LEFT to lower it. I keep mine around 85% volume. YOU ARE DONE SETTING UP A NEW VOICE

2) To change the LANGUAGE of the WRITTEN DIRECTIONS on the screen:
a) On your TomTom GPS screen, tap on the middle of the screen to bring the MAIN MENU on
b) Tap on the PREFERENCES icon
c) Tap on the RIGHT ARROW 7 times or until you see an icon labeled "CHANGE LANGUAGE".
d) Using the UO and DOWN arrows on the GPS screen, scroll up or down untill you see the langauges you're looking for. You'll get a screen with several languages available, including "English UK" and "English US"
d) Touch on the screen you want. The screen will automatically go back to the previous menu screen that shows the "CHANGE LANGUAGE" icon. Touch the "DONE" button.

YOU ARE ALL DONE. Now, your VOICE and all WRITTEN DIRECTIONS should be in ENGLISH.
