Out of Range
Sounds like your screen saver is on a setting that your monitor will not display. Go to display settings and change everything to a default level such as 1024x768 at 60hz refresh rate. If your monitor is a wide screen it should work with 60hz refresh rate if not it should work at 60,70, or 80 hz. You should also check you power settings for hibernate and sleep modes to make sure they are set to a default display setting.

I need to get it out of the external case so I can
the only cleaning required on this is the laser reader bulb, to do this u just buy a CD/DVD cleaning kit from any store that has DVD players, walmart has these kits, the kit is just a disc with a brush that u load like any DVD, then follow the on screen instrutions..

I had Nero 6 Suite preinstalled on my computer
Anyway you don't have actually the nero installation disc provided with buying cd/dvd drive.
All you have to do is aside from Nero, there's a lot of burner programs which you can use in the internet like for example: Ashampoo Burning Studio, ImToo, Roxio, & etc..
And this are all you can download at their websites.
Here are the link.
www.ashampoo.comGood luck!

Will not read on my labtop
It is broken. Either replace it,
or purchase an external CD/DVD reader/writer, with a USB interface.
