If it is brand new. I would advise taking it back to the store you purchased it from and show them it is defective. If you hear sound like the sounds of windows booting in and no display at all then it's probably a bad LCD. If you here a series of beeps then it could be another hardware issue such as memory, onboard video, the motherboard, etc.
The hardrive may be malalligned from docking area or has been removed from device. Usually, the computer would display lighing systems only least performing any display functionalities in the absence of a hardrive.
Hello,
1.Install your wireless network adapter
in Windows XP with SP2. This process includes installing the proper
drivers for your wireless network adapter so it appears as a wireless
connection in Network Connections.
2.When the computer is within range of the wireless AP operating in your
home or small business, Windows XP should detect it and prompt you with
a Wireless networks detected message in the notification area of your
taskbar.
3. Click the notification message. If you are not notified, right-click
the wireless network adapter in Network Connections and click View
Available Wireless Networks. In either case, you should see a dialog box
with the name of the wireless connection.
4 Double-click your wireless network name. Windows XP will attempt to connect to your wireless network.
5.Because Windows XP has not been configured with the WEP encryption key
for your wireless network, the connection attempt will fail and Windows
XP will prompt you with a Wireless Network Connection dialog box. Type
the WEP key in Network key and Confirm network key, and then click
Connect.
6.If the status message for your wireless network in the Wireless
Network Connection dialog box is Connected, you are done. If the status
message for your wireless network in the Wireless Network Connection
dialog box is Authentication did not succeed, click Change the order of
preferred networks in the list of Related tasks. From the Wireless
Networks tab of properties of your wireless network adapter, click the
name of your wireless network in Preferred networks, and then click
Properties.
7.In Network Authentication, click Open. In Data encryption, click WEP.
In Network key and Confirm network key, type the WEP encryption key as
configured on the wireless AP.
8.In Key index, select the key index corresponding to the encryption key memory position as configured on the wireless AP.
9.Click OK to save changes to the wireless network.
10.
Click OK to save changes to the wireless network adapter.

Try deleting all the cookies and history from internet options..then try restoring defaults from the advanced tab of internet options which you get in Tools button at the top.If this does not work. Try going to my network places and try disabling and enabling the internet by right clicking on the internet connection icon.
It is looking for a password (WiFi Network Key) You have to double click on the little computer icon down in the right tool bar area, the one with the two side radiating arcs, and possibly has a small red X under it. The red X indicates that it is NOT connected. When you double click on that icon a window called RT28701 opens up, then you click on Wireless Information tab, then you cursor down to the name of your WiFi and high light it and click the connect box. Then another window opens up called Network Properties. Uncheck "The key is provided automatically" box. This will allow you to type in your "Network Key", the password that protects your network from outsiders. This "KEY" was set up when you installed the router on your server computer. If this does not work at first, turn the machine over on it's back and using a toothpick, insert it into the little hole about an inch diagonally from the right corner of the data plate, this will re-load a new copy of everything including the WiFi RT28701 driver.
sometimes this driver gets confused. See my TIP at:http://www.fixya.com/support/r7350901-fix_synet07526_wifi_flashing
Hello, what are you trying to load? Apparently your unit acts like a mobile device and so doesn't work like a true fully-functioning pc;more a stripped-down version. Try using the mobile version of youtube, which is www.m.youtube.com as that should work. Also, it won't stream video from the internet, but should run mp3/4 video, presumably through the memory slot in the side. Have a look at this interesting video review of the unit. http://bestgadgetnow.co.uk/gadget-news/99-cvs-sylvania-netbook-computer-review/
Hello, you don't need a usb cable at all, just plug the mp3 player into the usb socket on your computer. All modern computers have at least 2 sockets somewhere. If they're on the rear or a bit hard to reach, buy a usb hub, this will extend your usb connectors and give you extra usb sockets. They're inexpensive too and most supermarkets sell them. p.s. best ones have a external power supply. Regards, nicam49

Hello, if it's 4gb it won't be SD...it'll be SDHC. It's possible your Sylvania doesn't support the SDHC.
Biggest size SD is 2GB.
Do you have any smaller cards you can use?
Let me know how it goes!

You have broadband but did not say if you have a wireless router. If you do your network should come up when you try to connect if not the wireless on the netbook is turned off
Connections to the internet can be tricky. It depends on how you connect- modem, lan,or wireless. If wireless, is it at home, or at a hot spot. If you are connecting at home, try shutting off your wireless switch on your laptop.(if you can), then shut off (unplug) your router, plug it back in, and then plug in the lan (ethernet) cord, and reboot. It should find your connection. You might also go to control panel, then to internet options, then to connections. See if there are any listings in the box. You might have to change things if there is one that says "use this connection first" or something like that, if you are trying to connect otherwise. Then go to lan settings, and uncheck "automatically detect settings". For a modem you need to make sure the modem is installed in devices (in control panel) and then make sure the software, from your internet provider, which will tell your laptop which number and how to connect, is installed. If you are using a wireless connection, do as instructed above and uncheck "automatically detect settings." and make sure your wireless switch is on. Occasionally there are conflicting connections, or possibly unsecure wireless connections "remembered" in your system that may have changed. Right click on your wireless icon on bottom right, then network and sharing center, then manage connections. You may want to delete the ones you don't recognize, or the ones you don't use anymore, as you can always connect again if you want to. If you are having trouble connecting to a particular connection, remove it from that list and then try connecting again. I know a lot of this sounds difficult, but like I said, connecting to theInternet can be tricky.
Does your monitor require a driver, And it sounds like maybe an issue with your video card, But without seeing it I really can't help..
However it does sound like you ave a video card issue, can you borrow a card from a buddy to see if it works, even if you add a crappy video card it will let you know if its something more serious like the motherboard or Power supply unit
mflood2, Either the unit's main fuse got a bit tired prematurely, or is having a problem with it's "switch-mode-power-supply" going into full shutdown mode having detected a serious problem with itself or another major circuit inside the unit. Use warranty first!!!! If need be, Yell and scream about poor relaibility and premature failure!!! Else, you or qualified electronics technician will need to get inside unit to evaluate current state of the unit and make decision on just what needs to be serviced or repaired down to board or component level. It's your call as to what to do. p.s. do you know someone who deals with repair of human lower extremities(feet) and has an office in a town that begins with a "W" and ends in "a"??? 12fixlouie
Wont your Windows disk install a generic driver on Plug and Play ? Usually should find a monitor at start up and install a driver automatically
Let me know so we can get it sorted
Good luck
