Apple iMac 24" Desktop - Page 5 Questions & Answers
I have an Imac 24" 2.8 ghz. I run windows xp sp3.0 on it.
Hi again. Sorry it's been a while for me to get back to you. Work!
In windows, on the bottom right there is a red speaker icon. Double click it. In the window that appears click the tab labeled 'Mixer' There you can choose the input source - Line, Mic, etc - Choose Mic by clicking the little dot to the bottom right of the fader. Now set the input volume of the mic to about 1 (if the scale was 1 to 10). That should be about right but you can leave it up and adjust to suit.
The video settings you can only adjust using whatever software is using it.
There's loads more you can do with your audio from that mixer controller. I'd recommend just playing with it to find out what you can do. Have a play, you're not gonna do any permanent damage.
All the best

Imac-samson-gtrack mic compatability
From the Samson Audio website...
"Ideal for the traveling musician or the project studio, the G-Track
ships with a desktop mic stand, swivel stand mount, USB cable and all
the cables needed to connect any musical instrument with a standard
1/4" or RCA output. The G-Track ships with Cakewalk's Sonar LE and
works brilliantly with Apple's GarageBand."
If it states that it works with GarageBand, I would say that it would work on a mac.

IMAC Downloads
I think you're trying to put windows programs on a apple mac. It won't work directly. If the program is .exe it's windows only. I think this is the case here.
Try http://www.freemacware.com for free mac apps.
Make my new mac work
If you install the premium version of Office 2008 on your mac, the Outlook Express comes with microsoft exchange server support, allowing you access to the features PC users often require.
Mail
Hi, just to clarify you are trying to consolidate all of your email to the Mail.app program on your Mac, correct? It's not too tough and I'll let you know a secret. Yahoo normally doesnt allow you to do this without being part of their pay program but they launched "IMAP" support for all free clients.
The first thing you need to do is open your Mail program (The one on your dock at the bottom of the screen). Then click Mail>Preferences> Then click the + sign in the bottom left hand corner.
Put in your name, your yahoo email account (Example
[email protected]) and password. Uncheck Automatically setup my account and click next.
Click the drop down box that says POP and choose IMAP. Replace the info under incoming mail server with i
map.next.mail.yahoo.com. Click next.
Check the SSL box and click next again.
Under description put yahoo
Replace the information in Outgoing email server with smtp.next.mail.yahoo.com.
Put in your email address (remember the @yahoo) and password one more time and click continue. Click continue again, confirm your information and click create.
Your done and your email is good to go.
Empty trash
try closing all programs first, then go to trash can and hold "ctrl" and left click. Then click empty trash, this should let you can everything unless you are trying to trash an application that is still running. To find out if you are hold "apple, FN, ESC" it will bring up task manager.
In the apple list,
you've most likely got something running that is competing with processing time for your player. i'd open up activity monitor and see what processes are highest on CPU % usage. the ones that look elective (not system-related), turn 'em off. turn off spotlight for a sec too. then test your import into itunes afterwards. is it still slow?
Deleted the mac off my mac!
Do you have the original install disks? You can start from there and reinstall and rebuld. It is still going to take some time. Insert the DVD and restart. Hold down the C key and follow the instructions to reinstall everything.
You might want to think about getting an external HD for TImeMachine in the future. If you have a TimeMachine backup Volume you could restore using the upgrade disk and your TimeMachine volume.
Wireless conection problems
As far as I can tell you can only connect to other people's computers via the network router in a wireless application. Even then your brothers computer must be on "share" setting to allow you to do so. Check your airport is working in the network settings function in preferences, if yes, go into you computer on the side bar there will be an icon called "network" click that once and you will see what your airport card is connected to and if your brothers cpu is on that network.
Computer freezes or crashes
Sounds like you may have some sort of Hardware problem.
Possibly the Hard Drive may be bad.
Go to Disk Utility in Applications >> Utilities >> Disk Utility
Select your HD in top LH corner of Disk Utility then click Verify Disk
OS X very seldom crashes or freezes unless it has some sort of Hardware issue.
ERROR CODE 4M0T/4/40000003: HDD-1211
Install a new HDD.
Press and hold Command, Option and R keys with a keyboard connected via USB.
Power the mac on whilst holding down the keys. Release the keys when the globe shows and select your router code then download the OS for your mac.
Install the OS.
It takes some time to do this!

There are several causes for this:
- Dust buildup in the computer prevents proper cooling, so the fans have to work harder.
- Corrupted Power Manager chip settings. Go to the Apple support page and search for "Power Manager" "reset" and your specific model. You can get the model number from the System Profiler utility (Apple menu: About this Mac: More Info). If this is the problem, resetting the Power Manager should solve it. If it happens again after unplugging, you may need a new clock/PRAM battery;
- Bad temperature sensor (all fans run at high speed);
- Shorted fan driver transistor on the logic board or in power supply (one fan always runs at max speed).
