How do I hard reset the RVS4000?

The Router’s ports and Reset button are located on the back panel of the Router. You can find a small push button with "Reset" written above it.
You can use the reset button:
If the Router is having problems connecting to the Internet. Press the Reset button for just a second with a paper clip or a pencil tip.
If you are experiencing extreme problems with the Router and have tried all other troubleshooting measures, press and hold in the Reset button for about 10 seconds. This will restore the factory defaults and clear all of the Router’s settings, such as port forwarding or a new password.

Try this. At a command prompt, type 'ping www.mydomain.com' without the quotes and sub your domain for 'mydomain'. see if it resolves to an IP address or fails to connect.

If it resolves and you get 4 results, the problem is on your end. Place the IP address in your browser's address bar and nothing else. Example: 209.191.93.53 will give you www.yahoo.com. This bypasses the dns server of your provider and your cache. If the IP address gets your website, then clear your temp int files and cookies. Also check that your firewall will let it pass, windows and antivirus.

If the ping test fails, then the problem is that your service provider has not updated his dns server to pick up your new IP address. This will probably cure itself in 48 hours.

If you continue to have domain issues, contact me for assistance. [email protected]

Quick VPN Client gateway not responding with vista home

Hi there,

Did you ever manually try and setup IPSec tunnel witn XP?
Did you ever have a previous version of QuickVPN installed?

I've found that if you've tryed to setup IPSec and then installed a previous version of quickvpn, you'll never ever get it to work.

If you have a new clean install of XP and the latest quickvpn. it works.
I've had to do this on two computers to get it to work.

Thanks

I have two RVS 4000 routers with pulic IP's

non public ips mean the 192.168.x.x. addresses you are referring to ... since they form a virtual private network it is normal .. see if ping protocol is disabled ..the other router just discarding the ping packets... you may have to check the route a packet is taking without VPN ...it can be complex without a network diagram.

Router settings to allow MacPro to access

The university that I attend compiled a great guide for setting up their VPN off campus. These should work for you as well:

http://www.it.ubc.ca/security/VPN/setupdocs.html

So far as I can tell, you shouldn't have to change the settings on your router to access a VPN from your home.

I have a gateway to gateway vpn (router to router)

Tell, are you accessing the VPN from the ATT connection or from outside from some other connection?

The 512Kb Upload is very limited and will be very slow on transfering files, So if you are at the ATT connection you can download a good speed, but you can't send, its very slow. So if you are outside of the ATT connection you will get 512KB which is very slow around 50KB/s - more or less.

How to Fix Linksys Router Error 2118?

This seems to be a symptom of a configuration error, which can be fixed by resetting the router to factory default. Do this by finding the (often partially hidden) reset button on the device, and pressing and holding down the button, with the power on, till lights start flashing on the router. Let go of the button and allow the router to reset (can take a minute or two). You will now have reset the router to factory default. To connect to your ISP, you'll need to enter your account details (and any other specific information) provided to you by your ISP. You will also have to set a name and password for the wifi section of your router (if it has wifi) if you don't want it to be freely accessible by everyone within wifi range.
