The problem could be due to a bad USB cable or the USB port on the PC is faulty. [Yes, they do fail] Also, this MFP came out before the new USB 3.0 so their could be driver issues as well. Try a different port first. If that doesn't work, try a different cable that you know works. Try either reloading your printer driver next. Don't forget to inspect the connector on the scanner where it plugs into the back of the main chassis. If the cover has been removed and that plug had been unplugged, re-seat it into its board.
I had a major crash
try to install your printer in another computer if you can install it successfully then the problem is on your laptop hard disk .There might be a bad sector on it try the scandisk of your computer then enable the automatic fix bad sectors.once it is done re install again the software of printer..good luck
Says scanner locked phaser 3200
Under the scanner, entering your hand over the exit tray you can find a green slide plastic that you must locate in the open position, once made this, you must power off and on your printer.

NOTE: If the printer has been powered OFF for a long period of time, the date and time may need to be reset when the printer is powered back ON.
- Press the [Menu] button on the Control Panel until 'Machine Setup' is displayed on the top line of the Display Screen.
- Press the [Left] or [Right] arrow button on the Control Panel until 'Date and Time' is displayed.
- Press the [Enter] button on the Control Panel.
- Refer to the table below to enter the current date and time using the numeric keypad.

- When the date and time are correct, press the [Enter] button.
- Press the [Stop / Clear] button on the Control Panel to return to the Standby mode.
