It took me forever, but I just had to figure this out too for my boss. Here's what I did, and hopefully it works for you.Do you have a screen at the top of your phones and a screen to the right side? If so, this should work.Hit the Globe Button or Feature Button, whatever's there. Then you'll type in **266344 as usual, then the password. When the A.Configuration screen pops up, that's the start of a long menu. At this point, looking to the screen on the right, you should see 3 arrows. If you don't have that screen and 3 arrows, you can stop here because I don't know that this will work for you.If you do:Press the left bottom arrow button until B. General Admin appearsHit the top right arrowHit the bottom right arrow until Time/Date appearsHit top right arrowAt this point, the time will display up topHit Change (should be the 3rd button underneath your top screen)Enter 2 digits for the hourHit the bottom rt arrowMinutes will appearChange to the appropriate minute and hit the bottom rt arrow againChange AM/PM this way as well, and the date if needed.Once completed, it should bounce you back to the menu (4. Direct Dial)To exit from the menu, you can hit the Red button on your phone with the phone picture and the downward arrow.I'm sure there's lots you can do in that menu, but I found it really frustrating to navigate.Hope this works for anyone trying to work around a phone from 20 years ago!

Hi Evygal,
There is nothing to worry about it because this phone supports a speed dialing feature , which means that you can program the numbers in a way that just pressing them in a specific way usually for some more time than a usual press of a button will automatically enable the speed dial function and the phone will call the number that has been programmed on the digit.
A good idea to not face this problem is to quickly remove the finger off the button when you press it , because keeping it for long , just as long as one sec can enable this speed dialing feature.
Hope that helps ..:) Let me know in case you have any queries, would love to help you.

Hello there, the problem with your unit is a programming problem. The unit is not programmed to perform intercom functions therefore its inability to dial extensions. Here are a couple of user manuals to help you re-program the phone and also help you understand more about using the phone and its features.

So you're saying you can dial a phone number, but when the voicemail system answers you can't dial an extension number ? If that's the case, that means your phone system reset. Generally that means all phones will have access to only line 1 and 2, and that they'll be ringing on all phones. The date would usually change to Jan. 1st 1980, but caller-ID might override that. All line programming would be set to pulse, which would be the cause of you not being able to dial an extension number a voicemail system answers. It would also mean that when you do dial a phone number it takes a while before you hear it ringing. (Because the phone system is dialing in pulse instead of tone, if you stand next to the phone system you'll probably hear it go)
... Long story short, your entire phone system needs to be reprogrammed. I suggest only doing a partial reprogramming, then unplugging the power for a few minutes and check to see if the programming stuck. If not, the battery in your system also needs to be changed.
Need to know how to retrieve voice mail on Nortel

The battery in your phone system is dead. This will happen every time you have a power failure. Everything resets. Date becomes Jan 1st 1980 (but might update if you have callerID), all phones will have access to only line 1 and line 2, both those lines will ring on all calls, and the line settings are set back to pulse ...
Ideally you either have the battery replaced (it's soldered on the board of the system), or you get a new phone system. Otherwise you'll have to reprogram everything when you have a power failure.
