It sounds like your first problem with the detergent may be that you are blocking the little door that releases the deterget with tall dishes. When you stack the machine hold the door partially open to make sure that you are going to stop the little door opening. I do this on a regular basis when my brain is not functioning. It is hard to address your other questions without being there. For example, make sure that you don't put thin things like chopsticks in the silverware tray so that they go through the bottom and block the lower spray arm. You can open the door during the cycle to see what is going on inside. Lastly, the drain pump will change pitch when the machine is empty of water. Could the noise be that? Also the drying fan kicks in at this point.

Sounds like either the wash pump brushes have worn, or more likely the pcb timer is faulty

Based off the information you have provided your Frigidaire dishwasher is flashing an "ER" error code on the panel. Typically, the "ER" stands for an error code sometimes to help clear out a false error code you can perform a reset on your dishwasher. In order to do that you would need to disconnect power from your dishwasher for approximately ten minutes.

If you continue to experience an issue with the error code I would recommend contacting a technician for proper repairs. The technician will be able to properly diagnosis your dishwasher and this will help you to avoid any unnecessary part purchases. Hopefully this is helpful. -Matt
