Some times my Acer travelmate 5520 does not start up properly, the desk top background comes on and thats it, so i have to turn off at the power button and try again may be trice more before it will s

it sound like explorer isn't starting. this isn't a permanent fix but can get you working again without a restart. when you see the desktop press ctrl+shift+esc this will open task manager, now click file run and type the following: explorer.exe this will now open explorer and you will be able to work as normal

Acer 5520 travelmate when loading has 2 vista partitions how to delete one

when you boot to your normal partition can you see the other vista drive? this can be a restore partition so it is worth keeping but to answer your question. go to my computer right click manage and go to disk management. in here you should see all your disks like C:\ D:\ and E:\ now when you partition it creates a new drive letter but remains on the same disk. you will have to manually check to make sure which partition you want to delete, once you know right click that partition and click delete

I have an Acer 5520, using Empowerment Technology, running on windows vista, it can connect to my sky broadband, but then the broad won't connect on to the internet.

the obvious is restart the laptop, but alternatively what you can do is try and find an updated driver. to find out what driver you currently have and who makes it right click my computer and go to manage, then click device manager. the driver your looking for should be under networking it should have something like "WLAN" the other should have "LAN" once you've found out who makes it go to their website download the latest driver and install test again.

How do i get the c drive out of y acer travelmate 5520?,everyone says there is a screw holding i in but i cant find one!

you should be able to find a Youtube video for this. if not quite often the screw is on the outside or is on the opposite side for example under the keyboard. also if your sure that you have all the screws out then it could just be the HDD is held in quite tightly so just give it firm but gentle pull

When i press power it doesnt turn on, instead it beeps 2 times then no power at all.. then when i get through it after the acer apprears the window icon will show then it start beeping about 15 to 20

this sounds like dodgy RAM, open up the back covers on your laptop until you find the RAM once you have done this reseat the RAM in the opposite slot and try again. if it still doesn't work try with individual sticks. if it works perfectly with one but buggy with the other then it is the RAM.

I have a problem with the right hand speaker

this can be a faulty jack socket on your laptop, i.e. has been knocked a couple times with the jack. to test wiggle the jack till other speaker pops in. if this doesn't work switch where the speakers attach to if the right hand speaker starts to work through the left channel then their is issues with the right channel, try switching the aux lead if it comes back then its just the wire if not it can either be your jack socket on the laptop or a blown connection on the speakers. you can pay for people to repair these but your looking at least 100 labour and parts

Beeping in bootup several times

what this usually is, is the RAM. what you need to do is to remove one of the back plates until you find a cover with your RAM underneath (not sure what RAM looks like... Google it) so now that you've found them there will be a couple of clips on either side push these clips out so the RAM stick pops up. remove both sticks and try one stick at a time in both slots until you find a combination that works. sometimes with reasonably old laptops that have had a lot of use and abuse the RAM sticks can become loose and this will cause the laptop not too boot.

Screen problem (black)

It might be that the LCD is defective. Try bringing it to a technician. If the other monitors work great then it has something to do with the hardware part of your computer. David

Can,t find how to start the web cam and when i try

for some stupid reason there are 2 drivers for the webcam. i went with the sunyin driver. there are 2 setup.exe files and you need to install both. i would start with the driver setup.exe then the one in the utl folder. no need to reboot between installation files... not until both are installed then reboot. good luck.

Hi, I have an Acer

Sorry to hear you're having trouble with your notebook.

The book indicator you referenced is the hard drive activity light. When you see this flicker it indicates the hard drive is being accessed.

With the notebook booted up, press Fn+F11 a few times to enable and disable numlock. If the numlock light(lock with the number '1' on it, next to the hard drive indicator) turns on and off then the problem may be only related to your monitor and not a failed hard drive, video adapter, or something like that. Believe it or not this could be a good thing.

With the computer booted up, press Fn+F5 and wait a couple seconds. This will toggle the display modes. Press Fn+F5 a couple more times to cycle through all the modes.

Also try pressing Fn+F6. This keystroke blanks out the display to save battery.

Do you EVER see anything on the screen while the notebook is booting up? You should see the Acer splash screen and maybe some information about entering the BIOS setup.

If you have an external monitor and a VGA cable(or DVI or S-video) you can connect the external monitor to your notebook then turn the notebook on. You may have to do the Fn+F5 keystroke after connecting the monitor to select the correct display mode. This will help us determine if the problem is the notebook monitor or not.

My screen goes off while the system is still working and it will not come up again untill i turn it off using the power botton.

You could have a faulty inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp. The inverter is located behind the screen bezel at the bottom of the screen between the hinges.

5520 fan wont shut off

Return the laptop asp, the temperature sensor that monitors the processor is not working and fan is running full, this is a manufacture defect and will lead to more trouble. I would demand a replacement or money back, if they try to tell it is normal it is not.

How do I change the ram chip?

1 Turn off the computer, unplug the AC adapter (if connected) and remove
the battery pack. Then turn the computer over to access its base.

2 Remove the screws from the memory cover; then lift up and remove the
memory cover.this cover is in the center of the machine on base

3 (a) Insert the memory module diagonally into the slot, then (b) gently press
it down until it clicks into place.

4 Replace the memory cover and secure it with the screw.

5 Reinstall the battery pack, and reconnect the AC adapter.

6 Turn on the computer.

The computer automatically detects and reconfigures the total memory size.
