I have a Dell XPS M1710. PC will not boot, no

On the mother board is an internal battery (round, silver type). Try replacing it and see if that fixes the issue.

System shows as connected, but can't get explorer.

Open the 'internet options' either from in explorer or in the control panel. Open the 'connections' tab and click 'advanced'. At the bottom there is a button that says 'LA
N Settings'. Make sure to clear all of the check boxes and restart your browser.

I have a Dell XPS M1710. PC will not boot, no

HI there!

A amber light power button means that the
distribution of the power is not working properly,

And as you have said the battery won't charge anymore,

Usually what fixes that problem of yours is a BIOS
update but from what i see you cannot fix it with a BIOS update anymore.

And on what they said yes your gonna need to replace motherboard because it's not detecting the charger anymore if you can still access BIOS setup go to battery info you will see that the ac adapter is unknow.

So for the fix of your problem there you'll need to get a motherboard for your computer.

Hope this helps!

Recovery (D) drive is full and I don't know

The only thing that should be on the recovery partition is the recovery programs. It appears you are storing your data on it. Remove your data or programs and put them on the C:\ drive.

Try booting into safemode, press F8 during bootup. Then you can try either using a System Restore from windows or you can try to finish uninstalling mcafee and / or Norton. You should definately give AVG Free edition a shot. It's awesome and better yet, FREE!!!!

reboot your system and at the blue dell logo tap the F2 Key, and now you will be at the bios screen

check if you get these lines at this screen on the screen and if you get these lines here as well, you might have a hardware problem call dell technical support for this, they will run a few diagnostics and if needed replace the faulty hard ware.

Dell error code 2000-0142

Any error code for a hard drive isn't good, and should be reason to get a new one right away. So long as the drive is still able to be accessed, you have a chance of retrieving your data. There are free utilities to help you 'clone' the data to a new drive, but you may want to ask a tech-minded friend for help if you've never done it before. It sounds like the drive isn't dead yet, but is definitely on its way out. Good luck!

Dell pc makes loud clicking noise like machine gun

Something is jammed in one of the fans ??? (there are at least 2 = one at the back of the power supply = should be easy to see - and one inside on the CPU heatshnk (harder to get to) Else its likley the Power supply or monitor is 'shorting out' internally .. If it's just 'ticking' it's likly your hard drive going bad (unless, of course, you happen to have a CD/DVD disc inserted into the CD/DVD reader ...sometimes these 'tick' during power-up as the PC tries to boot from the disc :-) )

Will not power up

I know this post is over a year old, but i feel like chiming in anyway. The motherboard may have suffered from cheap cap syndrome. This happens when the components used to populate the motherboard were poorly made with inferior products. The capacitor's may have swelled up to the point of uselessness. This would give you post errors, or no post, or even no power. This is not to rule out the power supply, but it is more likely the motherboard. To test the power supply, unplug the big 20+ pin plug from the power supply to the motherboard, and use a conductor such as a paperclip to connect the one and only green wire in the mix to any black wire (there is a black wire on either side of the green one, you can use both) If the power supply is still good, the fans and drives will come on and spin up when you make this jump with the paperclip. If for some reason you notice the fans twitching but not spinning, then you know the power supply IS bad!

A cd is stuck in my lap top the tray will come out but the cd will not

With the tray open, visually inspect to ensure the cd is still in line with the spindle. Something long and thin (such as a thin knife or spatula) slide it between the top of the drive and the top of the cd. Carefully tip the tool down to try and release the CD from the spindle. Do not attempt to force it! If it is not jammed in the drive, the CD should drop free. Carefully pull the CD out of the drive. Look at the CD to see if it has been damaged from the drive. If the CD will not come out, it needs to be take to a repair service.

When I did this project Ace Hardware had the screwdriver bit for my drill for less than two dollars. Good luck!
