plz try by reinstalling the sound driver, you can downlod it from the manufacture website

Once any OS is installed over old one or clean install is done one of the drivers that has to be usually reinstalled is sound drivers. You will have to go to dell.com and choose support and downloads and find ur system and install the new vista driver. This should fix it. Good luck.
