Hi, Please follow the steps below to reset the lenovo to factory settings Note: All your data will be lost. So keep that in mind. So take the backup of your data first in a separate HDD or flash drive. 1. Switch off the Computer 2. Press the power button and then immediately start tapping f11 key on the top of your keyboard. 3. You will hear a beep sound and then stop pressing it. 4. You will get the screen says windows is loading files. Wait untill it finishes. 5. Select the default language which is US and Click on next . 6. Enter your login credentials (username and password) if you use to login to the windows. 7. Then you will get the system Recovery Options screen where you need to select the last option "Lenovo Product Recovery" 8. Again preferred language will be English US and hit Next. 9. Accept the terms and conditions and hit next and then hit Yes on the warning. 10. Then it will start resetting the Lenovo Think pad to the factory default with no previous data. Same as when you purchased it. If you have any query you can ask before restoring the Computer. Hope this helps you. Reply if that fixes your issue. Sukhiii

R61i overheats and goes in sleep mode

Many laptops accumulate dust inside the fan/heat exchanger assembly over several months or years, and must be removed in order for the laptop to properly cool itself. Depending on how much you use the laptop, it can happen in as little as a matter of months. You may want to ask a laptop repair place how much just to clean out the dust, and see if that works. Sometimes a cooling pad can help, especially if the laptop isn't already on a hard, flat surface.I actually keep my laptop on a small wooden board the same length & width as the laptop with a cooling pad on top of that, and the laptop on top of that, because I often want to set my laptop on my bed, which can smother the air circulation, and cause it to overheat quickly otherwise. Even when on a hard, flat surface, like a table or desk, if I am playing a game, I put it on the cooling pad because games cause the laptop components to generate a lot of heat, and this brand is somewhat notorious for overheating (especially when it has a discreet graphics card).

I have an IBM keyboard

Look for an FN key. Sometimes it just says FN in a box really small on the key. Most likely near the bottom left.

The wireless card driver may be corrupted ot not installed. Install the wireless card driver and see if the wireless connection comes up.
The same model ThinkPadcan have different types of network, video and audio drivers and unless youknow exactly which one is installed in your ThinkPad, you need to download allthe drivers and install each driver until you find the right driver. When you download thedrivers, write down the device driver and it's file name so you have a recordof which driver you are installing and which directory the unzipped files arelocated on your hard drive. Go to the IBM/Lenovo WEBsite - support/download page and download the latest Windows device drivers foryour model computer, Use this link: - http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/product.do?template=%2Fproductselection%2Flandingpages%2FbrowseByProductLandingPage.vm&sitestyle=lenovo&brandind=10&validate=true You can download thevarious drivers and then you click on and run the various driver files, theywill then unzip and expand into a sub folder on C:\drivers Then install thevarious drivers from this folder (run the set-up file).

http://sodoityourself.com/hacking-ibm-thinkpad-bios-password/
Aunque retires la batería CMOS del potátil, la contraseña de BIOS no se reseteará. La única forma de resetear la contraseña, es realizando el tutorial que antes te he mostrado.

Reset Supervisor paaword Thinkpad R61.

To reset the BIOS password read the information from this link.

In case of your laptop the easiest method would be using software from Hiren's Boot CD as it's pretty hard to open it up and reach for the CMOS battery or the jumper and I wouldn't recommend doing it especially if it's under warranty.

In the top left of the screen appears a padlock,

Your machine has a Supervisor password enabled. It is usualy the last 4 digits of the serial no of the laptop. If that doesn't work then the other thing you can try is to remove the BIOS battery and reset the BIOS.

You will need to open up your laptop. The laptop CMOS battery is shown below.
slasher_x_47.jpg
Disconnect it for 15-30 minutes or more, then reinsert it and the data in the BIOS memory should be reset. If at first it doesn't work, try to remove the battery overnight. Once the battery has been reinserted power up the PC and see if the reset was successful.

I forgotten the Supervisor password,

Hi, you have a couple of options to reset your Thinkpad if the Supervisor password is lost. One is to send it to Lenovo who will replace the system board and hard drive, the other is to send to me and I will remove the password and return. Regards Paul - [email protected]

I have IBM Lenovo Thinpad

If you were to log on to the ibm.com web site, usually one is able to download if available, by model number, Customer Instruction Manuals, list of Dealers, for spare parts and service, Driver downloads and Installation Instructions as required.

This is the best way of ensuring up to date drivers for your system and they are free of charge!

There are no XP drivers to be found with Microsoft as XP is no longer supported.

Some manufacturers may have a limited number of Drivers still listed.

I hope this helps.
