Red light on the front blinks 4 times
The 4 blinks are telling you that there is a fault. The same as Computer Bios Beeps.
I,d suggest removing the RAM/Memory, and replacing it. Press and hold the power button for more than 4 seconds, to ensure it isn,t in standby mode. failing this remove the cpu and re-seat it as it may be slightly out of position, or out of it,s socket. finally have a look at the back or underside to see if there is a reset switch/hole.

Yesterday the power went out
Hi You don't say what operating system you use. You do not say if you hear any signs of booting, the hard drive or fans spinning or if anything appears on the screen, even briefly. I assume the laptop was plugged in and running during the power cut. Try removing the battery for 30 minutes, reattaching it and then testing it again. While, waiting, try to plug the laptop directly into the mains (battety less) and try to power it up like that. If it does not power up after all these tests, then you probably have damage to the Power Management System of the Motherboard, which requires an internal repair to create new tracks on the motherboard to bypass original tracks damaged by the spikes and surges that often precede sudden power cuts and sudden power restorations. Motherboards can be expensive to repair, as several cycles of disassembly, repair, reassembly and testing may be required before a warrantiable repair is completed to the repairer's standard of expectation and the customer's satisfaction. They cannot always be repaired and, if repaired, the fault can reoccur. Often, a motherboard failure means either a new motherboard (expensive hardware and labour costs) or a new laptop. Beeps usually indicate a problem with your hardware memory chips or keyboards or other items that are not functioning properly. I suggest if it is still under warranty send it back if not take it to a good shop for repair. Or try reinstalling the original software I would do this first. Most likely it is a memory module the way to test this is remove one of the chips and try starting the computer. If this continues place the one you removed back in the computer then pull the other one if it boots you have found your memory module that is bad if this is the issue, make sure that you have everything plugged in. Change geteway laptop from vista to xp
Yes you can but disable the SATA in the BIOS first and after Xp is installed you can install the SATA driver.
XP does not have a SATA driver or a SCSI driver on the CD and you need to interrupt the install process to insert this driver.
Leave the BIOS set to SATA, download the SATA driver and create a floppy with the SATA driver. Boot up the Windows XP install disk and when it asks for a a hard disk driver press F6 (I think it is this key, you have to be quick) insert the floppy with the SATA driver.
