Try cleaning the end of the batteries and if they aren’t new change them, which I’m sure you tried. Take a clean rag and put a little alcohol on it and wipe the connectors for the batteries. Sometimes the contacts oxidize which can cause an invisible barrier between the batteries and the contacts. If all else fails, tap it on a table or something, not super hard. I hate to say it but that works with mine....hope this helps. I with they made better remotes

Looking at the back..bottom right corner is CDR/Tape in and out. Connect the in on the eq to the out of CDR/tape, connect the out of the eq to the in of CDR/tape. You should then be able to use the CDR/tape monitor button to switch the equalizer in and out.
