i think you need to install the correct drivers so it will work because this item is not anormal windows add on and it requires special drivers

It sounds like your permissions are messed up on the flash drive. Since you can see the drive when you insert it, go to My Computer and right click on properties. Go to the security tab and look for the users and what rights they have to access the drive. If you have administrative rights, then you should be able to change any of the setting, or best bet is to add yourself to the list and give yourself full rights. At that point you should be able to do whatever you need to do with that drive.

What brand of flash drive is it? Try doing a Google search with the keybords "4Gb flash drive [brand] driver" and you should be able to find a download.

Did the hard drive come in the enclosure? (Is the hard drive supported by the extrenal enclosure) Does it work when plugged into another computer and have you tried using another cable?

Another option by the way is to check what happens when you take the hard drive out of the enclosure and install it inside the computer as an internal Hard Drive. If that works then it isn't the hard drive atleast. I will away to see what happens.
