My Cavalry 1TB USB 2.0

Hey Jeff, Sounds like this is something with info you need to keep..Keeping/securing/BACKING UP your data is your priority!! Personally, I would find a QUALITY (ASK a lot of questions.. can they guarantee their work,,- and NOT LOSE your data..!!) .. skip the geek squad - .. computer repair shop..(or some 10 year old).. I would first see if they could copy this drive to another drive (solid state) so you will not lose your data... we are at 4.0 with USB now... 2.0 is becoming the "floppy" of today..I have 3.0 drives and feel left out.. again.. securing/copying/backing up your data is paramount.. Good luck,,,

Hard Disk won't connect to my computer

body { background: #FFFFFF; margin: 0px; padding: 4px; font-family: arial, verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt; } p { margin:0px; padding:0px; } .spwrap { background: transparent url(../wysiwyg_rte/misspell.gif) repeat-x scroll center bottom; } Hello

Okay , so there are some steps to figure out what is wrong with your external.

Firstly , if your computer makes a sound when you plug in your external , go to Start-Control Panel-Administrative Tools-Computer Management-Disk Management , and see if your external drive is listed here with your local drives. If it is listed , right click on the drive and change the drive letter to make it appear in "my computer".

If your drive does not make a connection sound when connecting to your computer and also does not show up , please follow the next step.

Remove the hard drive from the casing if possible and install it in your computer case or another external case.If the drive works , the problem is with the casing and you can ignore the drive.

Now , if the problem is with the casing , there are still 3 possibilities.

  1. The USB cable between the drive and the computer may be damaged.
  2. The circuit board which connects your drive to the interface of the external may be blown.
  3. The power supply (if applicable) may have a blown transformer.
The latter is the easiest to diagnose , does your external light up at all when you plug in the power? If not , then this is probably your problem. On the bottom of the adapter is a label which you will be able to use to have a new adapter made at your local electronics shop and this will cost about $30 max. They will also be able to test the adapter with a clamp meter to see if this is really the problem and this should be free.

The second component you want to test is the USB cable. If you have a printer , swop out the cables and see if your printer functions normally. Most externals use the same connector so you should be able to test it in this manner. If the cable works go on to the last step. If the cable is defective , replace it with a new one which you can find for about $10 at most electronics and chain stores.

The last component to test is the circuit board. This is a bit of a grey zone as you probably won't be able to spot the blown component unless it failed really badly. With the casing already opened , locate the external's circuit board and check to see if you have any blackened components or fluids leaking from some components. If all the other components of the external worked perfectly , then this is the faulty part. It is not really economical to replace the circuit as most of the time it is out of production by the time you need to replace it and it still costs a lot even if it is available so if your drive is working perfectly when connected via sata or IDE on your computer , the best is to buy a new casing and place your old drive in the new casing.

A casing costs about $50 and you could get it at most tech shops and big chain stores like Best Buy.

I hope this solves your problem and please reply if you need more help.

Kind Regards
Andrea

Calvary 1TB USB 2Bay external hard drive problem

The problem could be the enclosure, not the drive.
I would take the drive out of the Calvary enclosure and install it in another one. Hopefully it will come up and you can access your data.

Need help recovering from a Steel Vine software mistake

well..maybe, and that is a major maybe..sometimes, with really good tools, some of that can be recovered, like when a hard drive crashes. assuming there was no other backup, this is problematic. I recommend you seek a really top flight computer person. This will cost a bundle though.

Broken Fan

You should be able to open up your external hard drive enclosure, find the right size fan, and order another one from almost any online store for cheap. You may even be able to go to some computer store nearby you and you may be able to get one there.

Constant beeping from Cavalry external HD

Can't say exactly what it means technically speaking, but my experience with such a problem is that the drive is 'dead'. Of course trying it on another computer would be constructive.

My black calvary external hard drive won't turn on.

Would be great if the next time you also place the model number, because Cavalry makes dozens of different drives. When the bleu light does not go on, you have to assume the drive is not getting power. If the drive has only one cable, (small drives like 2,5 inch most of the time only have one cable) it could be the USB cable is defect and can't give through the 5 Volt coming from the computer USB connector. It also could be the 5 Volt supposed to be in the computer has gone. If you have to connect an external power supply, with a small cable to the drive, I would check the power supply. A 5 Volt 2 A supply, with the round plug can't be that expensive. If both don't work, it also could be inside the housing of the drive is something defect. If you need to have the data on the drive, you always could but an universal USB connection for hard drives. I have one for IDE and E-SATA, in the box came a set power cables and a power supply, but that one was almost 50 dollar. There are cheaper ones on the net. Be aware drives don't live forever and make sure you always have at least two backups. (that is more than one origin; and one back up)

Error message says I don't

Hi there, It sounds like your network administrator has locked your ability to write to certain folders. If this is a home hard drive, the only way to fix this would be to completely reinstall windows. If it's a work computer, you need to talk to your IT Department. -Alex

im not sure how bad your hard drive is but if it works on another computer
click start control panel administrive tools ,computer management ,device manager look through all of your devices if you see a yellow question mark?or exclamation mark ! or red x right click to reinstall drivers or if you can see your usb but its not working ports(com&lpt)right click update driver sometimes the wires inside the cable will be damaged due to bending or stretching or placing heavy equipment upon the cable, just replace the cable of the hard disk, when you plugged the external disk drive you got that windows could recognize the USB device change the cable everything should work fine again, check the USB leads that attach to the motherboard usually red-white-green-black make sure they are securely seated and have no dust build up on them dust will cause static and a lot of unforeseen problems also make sure the computers Ram and Cmos battery are securely seated hope this helps also you could run the chkdsk utility click start run type cmd then type chkdsk/r/f which will scan for and attempt to repair any bad sectors and automatically fix any corrupt files on your hard drive another way of running the chkdsk utility click start control panel administrive tools, computer management ,disk management right click on your drive select properties click tools you should see click check now click start two boxes automatically fix files and scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors place then a tick in both boxes then select check now, start should schedule this task when restart do not do anything while the chkdsk utility is in progress any input may damage your computer then defragment your hard drive also you might download and use this registry cleaner it is totally free to use http://download.cnet.com/ccleaner/
