Where can I download the drivers for Windows?

Drivers are for equipment, (hardware), in or connected to your computer, ie printer, network card, usb, video card etc. Windows is pretty good at finding the drivers for them automatically but if it fails you need to go to the manufacturers web site and download the appropriate driver. Or, if the hardware came with a disk insert the disk and run the install program which should automatically install the driver. Drivers for Windows are supplied with with the operating system that you purchase from Microsoft or your local supplier.

It died, how can I retrieve my data?

If the hard drive that has failed is the same one that you are trying to recover from might the reason that you are getting this error.

This could be an issue where the part of the hard drive you are trying to access is corrupt and not accessible which would explain the reason that it would let you access the other partition.

Now I have seen cases where Malware can break the link of a Hard Drive.

So let's try a couple of steps.

Let's go back in to "Disk Management"

Lets right click on the partition that you are not able to access and select "Change Drive Letter and Paths"

Now try selecting a new Drive Letter.

This will restore the path if it has been broken.

There are also Data Recovery programs that might be very helpful to recover your important information.

Some addition links found on Googlehttp://www.datarecoveryreview.net/

hope this helps

This should be plug-n-play. Have you tried restarting the computer with the hard drive plugged in? If that doesn't work, I would return it.

All of a sudden the simpletech will not

> is the drive toast?

Either the USB-to-disk-drive adapter is broken, or the disk-drive itself is broken.

Search online for a professional "data-recovery" service; one is at www.seagate.com
They can repair your disk-drive just long-enough to copy your files to a new disk-drive.
Not inexpensive.

But, any "external" disk-drive should be used only as a "backup" for the files on your 'C:' drive.
If that is how you used it, then it should be possible to disassemble the enclosure,
and "transplant" a new, compatible, disk-drive, to "revive" your external storage-device.

I have a 1TB SimpleDrive

Try to reinstall any software that came with it. If you don't have it, go to the website and download any upgrades. Make sure you have plug and play enabled. Wiggle the USB plug on both ends to make sure you have a good clean connection. It SHOULD show up on Windows Explorer as drive E, F, G or anything other than C or your dvd drive.

Doesn't register on computer

Hello,

First of all make sure that the USB port that you are using to connect it to your PC is a USB 2.0 port, and not USB 1.0.

Also if it came with an external power, connect it to the external power before putting on your PC.

This is because the voltage supplied by USB 1.0 is lower than that of USB 2.0 and therefore might not be enough to power up your USB Drive.

After making sure about this, power up your system, and plug the harddrive, then Right-Click on my computer icon, select manage, then go to Disk Management Option.

On the Disk management option Page you should see ALL the drives installed on your system, including the hidden ones, so what you will just do is, try and locate the one representing your harddrive, and right click on it. then select "Change Drive letter and Paths", and give the drive any new, unique letter (i.e alphabet) different from the ones already on your system, and click on OK.

This should make your harddrive to be detected automatically.

In case it still doesnt work after trying this, then do this:

Unscrew the hard drive case and remove the Hard disk from the case, connect it directly to a system, not externally or through USB this time around, then get a software called NTFS DOS Professional. It is a software that works like magic when it comes to hard drive repairs.

If you know any other hard drive utility, apart from this, you can also use it. I just recommend this personally because that is what I use.

Insert it into your PC, start up your CD-ROM and let your system boot from CD-ROM.

It works through DOS, and it should be able to help you with it.

If this does not solve the problem, then I'm afraid you might need to replace the hard drive.

And if it repairs it, I would suggest that you just retrieve all your valuable files from it and don't fully rely on the hard drive again because of the hardware error it has developed. Just keep using it as a second.

If you cannot do this by yourself, just get a very good technician to do it for you instead.

Kindly keep me posted about the problem.

Hope it helps.

Goodluck.

The hard drive fell over and now it wont stop

I'm afraid the disk got damaged internally. If it was set to RAID 0 mode (speed), at least half, possibly all data is probably lost.
If it was set to RAID 1 (safe) mode, maybe the data can be recovered. It's not very likely, I'm afraid, because in this case the drive would make noises but would also work. I fear you had two 512 Gb disks configured as RAID 0. For RAID 1, it is sufficient to open the enclosure - it has three small screws on the side - and unscrew the four internal screws holding the drive caddy. Extract the caddy, unscrew both hard disks, and try connecting them, one at a time, to an external SATA to USB adaptor (Kraun makes a very handy USB to SATA-EIDE3.5-EIDE2.5 adaptor with external AC, but many exist).

In RAID 1, one of the disks might be detected and work (of course, both could have been damaged, but that would be real bad luck).

In RAID 0, sometimes it is possible to partially recover one of the disks (with half the data). It takes lots of luck, not all RAID 0 enclosures support this.

If you can't recover the disks easily (the RAID 1 trick is almost immediate), I'm afraid your only option is a data recovery service :-(

Didn't come with drives so now I need setrup raid

It looks as if this unit comes with raid pre-installed and does not have any downloadable software for it. One option would be to research Windows Software Raid which would be a "free" option.

My 1TB SimpleDrive FAT s

Hello,

It sounds like either the enclosure or the drive(s) inside have failed.

If the enclosure has failed and you don't have any crucial files on it that you don't already have elsewhere, contact simpletech for a warranty replacement.

If the enclosure has failed and you DO have important files on it, try having your local PC shop move the hard drive(s) into a new enclosure, if that works you're done, buy the new enclosure.

If the new enclosure fails, your drive(s) are damaged and you will need a pro to help get back your files. If this is the case, reply back with you location(Country, State and City) and I will pass along recommendations for your neck of the woods.

Hope this helps FixYa,

Chris

Corrupted and unreadable hard drive

You need to hook this hard drive up to another system as a slave/second drive, ask and I can tell you how if you need to know how. Then you need to run r-studio to recover the data.

What operating system was on the drive?

I would use w w w . r-studio . c o m

I have no association but it works well for this type of problem. You can scan for free and only buy it if it finds your data.
