Replace the battery!. Maximum life is two years. If you have not fully charged it by usb or ac prior to a trip and then connected it to the 12v car outlet before starting the engine the battery becomes damaged overtime.
Battery level determines the time it takes to make a connection. Always keep it charged. Never plug it into 12v car power when starting engine. This will not only shorten the life of the battery, but wiull damage the SIIRF chip.

i have the same tomtom one xl as you what do you mean by this it should automatically access satellite if your in zone and not in the bush near heaps of hills mine automatically clicks into 6 satellites hav u tryed to update ya maps by sync it to the pc and installing up to date updates???

I got this similar password problem with Tomtom One XL. I just solve this problem step by step under the following ways.

1. Connect One XL to TomTom Home in your computer using USB cable and switch on ONE XL. (Click YES to connect each other)
2a. Click "Manage my ONE XL"
2b. Click "Items on device" tag.
3. Now you can see all of the data in your device and click "Applications".
4. Click inside the check box and click "Copy items to computer".
(This step is back up for just incase)
5. After Backing up your applications, then Click "Applications" check box and click "Remove from device".
6. After removing applications, unplug from computer and switch off ONE XL.
7. Connect ONE XL and computer again and switch on your ONE XL.
8. TOMTOM Home will search your applications in your device. Finally it will automatically download and installed the new applications. (There will be 4 times installation and the device will restart itself. At this step, you need to touch "Yes" on your device to connect the device and computer.)
9. After installation completed, your device looks like newly come out from the factory.
10. Set up Language, Time, and so on and ready to use.

load cd & install software for tomtom home on computer, connect to computer connected to internet & turn on device, computer will ask if you want to connect device to computer, select yes, tomtom home will start, register device & it should search for updates

it needs a hard reset,

from the off position,
hold the power down till after it starts and then goes blank, then turn it back on, it will forget all former positions and clear the ram.

Tap the change language button. It gives you a selection of languages. At that time you can change the voices too

Hi, to be able to reset the gps receiver, you will need to download a reset utility.

all i can tell you there is that they don't like cigarette lighters only accesory outlets.

You will have to check 2 settings. First one. Tap on the screen. Tap on change preferences. Tap on the arrow 3 times. You should be on page: Preferences 4 of 6 by now. Tap on change language. Tap on English US. Tap on Yes.
Second one: Tap on the screen. Tap on change preferences: Tap on the arrow once (You should be on: Preferences 2 of 6 by now. Tap on change voice. Select a voice which has English US after the name from the list of names.(Select a voice, that has English US or UK, computer, if you would like spoken street names, and your GPS is capable of saying street names) Test and select. Go through voice preferences. Tap Done.

Turn on the GPS. Click (tap) on the main screen. You will be on Main menu 1of 2 now. click on change preferences. You will be on Preferences 1 of 6 now. click on arrow. You will be on Preferences 2 of 6 now. Tap on manage favorites. You will see your list of favorites. Tap on the favorite you want to delete. On the screen that opens tap delete. On the confirmation screen, tap yes. The screen will go back to your favorite screen. You will now see that one favorite you selected is gone. Tap done.

This must be a software problem . You need to reset your device to fix the problem . .

Tomtom has a tiny hard to see reset button near the docking base . Press that for 15 sec .

Try it for resetting .

NOTE : Hard reset could delete the saved data on your GPS device .

you might be better off buying a new one as some screens are costly

it means that the software is missing or corrupt... very common with tomtom. you can connect to tomtom home and update the unit if that doesn't work give tomtom a call and ask them to go through the troubleshooting with them
