When checking battery - garmin freezes when using "exit" button

I would go to the garmin site and update the firmware. The 850's had a loop problem in the software recently so it is worth a try.

MAPS DISAPPEARED!

Nope it disnt wipe them out, you did possibly when you put songs and things on the same area as the maps usually the root directory.
It is inadvuisable to put music on t6he GPS unless it has an SD card slot that allows for music to be loaded separately. I am sure it dont play music when it navigates anyway, so its a bot of a gimmick and a dangerous practice to use anything but maps on your GPS. get an Ipod or another device for your music. The cars may have also been placed in the wrong folder so check that they are where they should be

Touch screen needs to be

That is actually how you should do it, it's just that it's very hard to succeed. Personally I have to try 3-4 times before making it work. The "trick" is to start touching the screen right after it was turned on, but right before locking it, but still locking it right after it was turned on.
It's stupidly hard on this specific series for some very weird reason.
Also, since it seems to be very calibrated to the left, try pressing far left on your screen, so the touch is registred too, don't know if it helps, but possibly.

Hi, I have a garmin nuvi 700 series. I was playing

Hi,

if you removed the device without stopping it, or before it had finished transfering data. it could have shorted out, or damaged the internal data. try hard-resseting it if possible. remove any memory card that may have corrupt or incomplete data on ( which will stall the device from starting )
Try powering the device from another source ( Car-Charger Or Mains Adaptor )

Serial number

I had the same problem with my eTrex Vista HCx.
It used to be in the battery compartment!
I found my number on the original Garmin Box top in a very small UPC sticker.

Nuvi 760 suddenly stopped working - will not turn back on

Try holding the power slide to the left and holding it there for 8 seconds. If that doesn't work, try charging it via your PC & USB cable. If that doesn't work, try a mains charger if you have one (I had to do this with mine). Good luck!

The answer is GPSCOM 170. I'm assuming you need it for the online scavenger game. It took me about an hour on google to find the answer.

No sound from my nuvi 660

Let me first start by saying that for the $$ I paid for this thing I think it is really screwed up that so many people are having the exact same problem and I truly hope Garmin fixes the glitch. Now - on to the fix..... Before getting started, you should test my theory to see if the reason you no longer have sound was the same reason as I had. Turn the unit on and ensure all the setting indicate that FM transmitter is OFF and volume is not muted. Go to the volume adjustment screen and while adjusting the volume up and down you should apply pressure to the back left side of the unit with your fingers. I found the sweet spot to be about 1/4 distance down from the top and 1/4 distance from the left of the unit. Now, while pushing in at this location on the back of the unit with your left hand pointer and middle fingers, click the volume buttons up and down with your thumbs and if you hear sound... then it's time for the SIMPLE repair!!!

There are 2 small torx screws located on the back of the device down at the bottom. I didn't have a torx bit this small but I did have an allen key that worked. take out the 2 screws and open the back plate, don't be scared. Once open you will see 2 sets of wires connecting the back plate to the main board, one is the power cable coming from the battery which is affixed to the inside of the back cover, and also the speaker wire. I had plenty of room to perform my fix without any need to disconnect these wires, just be sure to pop it open gently as to not damage the wires but trust me - you will have plenty of room to work with. On the mainboard side of the device you will see a square chip-looking thing mounted onto a metal plate which protects the mainboard. All I did was put a glob of hot glue onto this chip. The glob should sit about 1/4 of an inch high. Let the glue dry. Place the back cover back in place and screw it back together. Done. If you don't have a hot glue gun then by all means feel free to use anything that is roughly 1/4 inch in width such as a folded up piece of paper or perhaps or whatever else you want to use. If your's was like mine then you are set to go and this problem should not rear it's VERY ugly head again.

Garmin 760 will not power on

Is the battery charged? What does the battery indicator say? If you are using it in the car, is the power cord connected and working properly? If it is working correctly, you should see a lightning bolt symbol over the battery bar graph showing that it is connected to an external power source and that it is charging.
Try plugging it into your PC and looking at the battery indicator. Do you see the lightning bolt? Does it shut off when your using it on the PC? If not, there is something not right with the car adapter. Also, just because it was plugged into the car adapter does not mean it was charging. Many cars will turn off the cigarette/accessory jack when the ignition is off or shut off after a short while to protect the car's battery from being run down. Try hooking it up the the PC overnight and leave the PC on. In the morning try using it. Does it still shut off? If so, the internal battey may be bad. If it works and doesn't shut down, you have a problem with it not charging in the car and the adapter may be bad.
