Zenith Z50P3 50 in. Plasma TV Questions & Answers
It is most likely a problem with the sets power supply. If it is still under warranty, exchange it as soon as possible. If your warranty has expired, find a good TV repair shop locally and ask for an estimate.
One thing you can try is a "cold start" of the sets processor. Unplug the set from the wall for about 15 minutes, then plug it back in and try powering up. Sometimes this will fix the problem.

Is the TV set to air or cable? It has to be set to air/antenna and a channel search has to be done first before a picture will show.

Fault to the main power supply regulator board. Check and replace damaged component/s at its main power regulator [SMPS] section circuit. Contact any service technician. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Surf the site with patience. Pull up older posts.

It will be best to replace the power supply regulator board as card basis rather than making "Surgery" to it; which usually will make loss for both money and time. Even though you can make it right, it will cost around an amount equal to the cost of a new board; including the cost of (spare parts + service charge) More to say, most of the spare parts to it will be difficult to get from open electronic spare part market. This is true to most of the flat panel TV power supply boards; irrespective of its brand and screen size.

These blinks [flashes] are fault indication (Error Codes). From the number of blinks occur at one time switch ON, you can get an idea about the faulty circuit section inside it. This will make repair easy. These are called blinking codes. Make sure about the exact number of blinking of the standby/power LED, by switching On & OFF the set, for at least two times. Count it carefully. If you wish to get some details, check the site linked here. It has details about blinking codes, and fault locating procedure, to many popular brand TVs and other devices.

If you get a blue screen when it's on, try feeding in an external audio and video source, like a camcorder or VCR, and see if it displays. Check setup or input selection. If it's set to video or HDMI source and nothing is plugged in, you'd get a blue screen.

Power supply is the big board at the top middle, but a short on any board could do what you are describing, You need a Digital volt meter to trobleshoot further, look for popped or bulged capacitors or shorted components before purchasing more boards. Also look at Y-sus, Y Drivers (big board on the left 2 skinny boards.

Plasmas are like tube TV's(CRT). Once the plasma tube breaks, air gets in, plasma gas gets out. And that's it. They are an enclosed vacuum picture tube. I don't know why people buy plasma. The newer LED have a much better picture. Rich people who swear by plasma, are ridiculous in my opinion. Again, if plasma tube breaks, thats it. Any wrong jarring can break a plasma tube.
