Dynex DX-PDVD7 Portable DVD Player Questions & Answers
Because this is a budget-design model, the cracked screen could quite possibly make the repair uneconomical, assuming a replacement LCD panel was available for it. However, you can submit the player to any reputable authorised DVD repair centre in or around your area for a quote - but be warned - if you go ahead, it could be expensive, unless you have a manufacturer's warranty or similar. These units are generally not repairable at individual component level, which makes the repair cost prohibitive in a budget model such as this. Up to you.
A new player may cost less than the repair/replacement parts for this one.

Unfortunately the stepper rail linkage is defective that moves the laser pickup assembly, the only solution is replace the whole laser pickup assembly which is not cost effective, cheaper to buy a new portable dvd player.

Hi lhanlon1,
Try these basic steps below to solve your problem.
You should prepare tools and test instrument like multimeter.
Assuming that the disc is good.
1.Clean the lens. -
Sometimes because of dust the lens can't read any disc. Try clean the lens by
soft cotton buds. Be careful while doing this.
2.Replace the ribbon - Check
the ribbon connected to the lens from the main board for scratch,
damage. Once it has an open line then of course the lens can't read the
disc. Also try to erase the contact by pencil eraser. If you've done the steps
above and the symptoms still there then the next step requires you a little
knowledge in soldering technique and reading the ohmmeter.
3.Check the motor - Check
the motor that spin the disc with an ohmmeter. You can test it using the
ohmmeter (x1) even it is connected on the lens assembly.Good motor - reading
should be fairly high and it will spin. Bad
motor- reading will drop to low resistance and will not spin. You may visit my tips http://www.fixya.com/support/r7833671-change_defective_motor_portable_dvd for more info.
Hint : 50% of my
repaired unit the above parts are commonly caused of the problem.
If you confirmed that you have a defective motor
then replace it with a new one. Before replacing the new motor you have to
check the clearance of the disc holder with the old one. The clearance should
be the same as the old because if not the lens will not read the disc if it is
too far or too close.
Ifyou already cleaned the lens, and confirmed that
the ribbon is good as well as the motor then I've advice you to send it to
repair shop because the next step should be done with an expert because it is
quite technical diagnosing the fault between the pick-up lens and the main
board.
Hope I helped you.
Have a nice day!
Thanks for using Fixya.

Can you see the menu on the display? If so, then your DVD is not compatible with the system (ex. system NTSC and DVD is PAL or SECAM). If you don't see anything at all then the display is broken (inverter is down or some diode responsable with the power circuit of diplay).

first of all check for the dirt or dust on the optical unit lens, secondly check for the breakage in the ribbon type connector, which connects the optical pickup unit to the main board, if broken replace it and if still the problem persists then replace the optical pickup unit

The laser needs replacing. You can find a disassembly guide in google if you're game. It's fairly easy, but important to be gentle with internal cables. The laser replacement should be on ebay or such. Make sure it's the right model number. any questions, email.

No disk message means that the reading sensor from the laser head doesn't get a return signal with a level high enough to trigger it. This can be caused by only 2 things - either thr return signal is blocked by dust that has settled on the laser lens and sensor, or the laser emitting diode from the head has stopped working.
The only thing you can do is to clean the laser head thoroughly: the space between the lens and the sensor with a can of compressed air and the top of the lens with a fine q-tip - be gentle the suspension of the lens is very fragile.
If even after cleaning the disk is not recognized then the player is dead - there are no parts (especially the laser head) available for it.
