Try unplugging the unit for a few seconds, plug it back in and try it. It may also be dirty and need a service.

The loading basket with the motor driver is defective, they work together in order to load the tape into play mode. I recommend returning the item for exchange.

There is a short in the power supply board or a load, the power transistor that is usually heat sink-ed is one problem area, the second thing I have encountered is a bad filter capacitor located near the heat sink "usually opens" after this point, I occasionally run into small parts that have been an issue. To pursue this, a technician would be an asset.

(its been a while since you've posted this so I am pretty sure you figured it out but just in case you haven't) you hold down on the play button (while listening to a song) until the volume control shows up on the bottom and then use the fast forward, rewind buttons to adjust. you can also hold down the menu button (while still listening) and it will take you into the EQ options. If all your other DVD work fine then there is a problem with the rental, rinse rental DVD with warm water and dry it off with a paper towl in a circular motion, now try and see if it will play, if it does it was probably dirty. Now if you still have a problem there may be deep scratches and in that case return it to the rental store and see if they can offer another.

This unit is line in recording only. There is no tuner in this unit so there is no place for an antenna to go in or a coax cable. There is a white and yellow hole on the front left of the DVD player/VCR. You will need to attach a cable box for cable tv or a satellite receiver for satellite tv or a converter box for over the air broadcasts with composite/RCA cables to this part of the DVD player/VCR. You will have to on this DVD player/VCR remote control press the input/video/av button in order to see the tv channel. You can change channels with the remote that comes with either the converter box, the cable box or the satellite receiver. You will use the DVD player/VCR remote to record.

There is more than one model so I do not know if your remote control operates the exact same way as this one but it is worth a try.

It has a tape transport problem. It shuts off to avoid any damage. It probably is not loading the cassette all the way in.

This happens when the DVD player has motor spindle problems if the media does not spin the laser can't read the information it will hunt and eventually fail.

You may see UNKNOWN DVD on a philips model or C 00 13 on a SONY model (ie dirty disc)

To load music on to the player do the following
1) Connect the player to your PC using a USB cable.

2) The computer should recognize the player and automatically download the required drivers.

3) Go to 'Start' - 'My Computer' and you should see the Mp3 Player listed there as a removable disk.

4) Simply drag and drop Mp3s or WMA files from your computer into that folder.

5) Disconnect the player - it should update itself and the player should be able to play the files.

It sounds like a Mechanical Problem. Switch OFF the player and Turn it Back ON after few minutes, say 30 minutes. if problem persists, you need to Disassemble the player. On most Models,this motor is probably near the front of the player and just to the right of the tray.

This motor is normally quiet and the normal noises you hear when the drawer is working are because of the motion of the tray. With the cover off though, you should be able to see the motor spinning when you press the buttons. If this is not the case, then the IC for the motor or the motor may have shorted out.

It may have a rubber band/belt (which may have broken) that drives the gears that move the tray in and out. Replace the rubber band/belt if it has broken.

your TV has composit video in but your DVD/VCR only has Component video and Svideo outputs ..those are not compatable with your tv .. if you look more closely you might find an SVideo input on your tv .. its flat and not as easy to see as the normal jacks .. if your tv does have SVideo then all you need is an SVideo cable (plus the two sound cables) ... i could check on what you have if you give the TV model number .. othwise you have to have something to convert your SVideo to composit video .. there is a cable that does that .. you can check with radio shack .. if they do have such a cable then one end would plug into the svideo of the dvd/vcr . the other end would plug into the yellow jack on your tv .. hook up sound and it should work ok ..

Hello. It indicates here that you have a DVD player. A player will not record, only a DVD recorder will record.

u have a cable/sateliite connection...cable from wall to cable box in...cable box out to vcr/dvd in....vcr/dvd out to samsung lcd in....(vcd/dvd and samsung must be tune to ch 3) now u should be able to record all channel (note HBO, and some others like it may not allow dvd recording) vhs yes.

Open it up and next to the right spindal where the tape goes there should be a small, black B-S button, press it in with a pencil or pin, and it should reset the VCR's computer.
