remove the memory card. Make sure the little notch on the left side is in the up position. If there is no notch, the camera will handle the card as locked. When all cards you put in the camera act the same (locked) perhaps the switch in the camera is defect. Check if the memory card slot is free of any debris. (use a magnifying glass and a strong light. 25619354-ivbkp2ztpa5subn0yl5eus0z-2-2.png The switch on the card here is in the correct position.

Check on the display to see if you haven't accidentally set it to macro or manual focus mode. Macro mode is a small flower shaped icon and manual focus is shown as an MF symbol on the display.

Look at your memory card. SD and SDHC cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the metal contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card.

As with most electronics the only possible fix is to remove the battery and keep it in a warm environment for a good while to let the electrics dry out. Sadly though the damage is usually done and condensation on the optics probably is not a good thing for taking clear pics.I would likely say you will need to replace the camera sadly :(

Hello Celia. Try going to the menu and look for the "storage" setting. Check to see if it is set on memory card or internal. Switch the setting to see if you can access the photos. If this doesn't work your 30 photos may be in a folder "type" your Canon cant access. Try moving them to a "Canon" folder that your camera created. Hopr this helps. Dale

Before doing anything else be sure the battery is actually capable of holding a charge. Worn out batteries charge very quickly in the charger. A healthy battery will take several hours to charge.

When a "charged" worn out battery is put into the camera battery voltage drops instantly when the camera tries to start from it - nothing happens in this case.

Is the battery powerfull enough? Meaning has enough DC current in it to powerup? There are 2 "ON" buttons one at which the lens comes out, the second to view pictures.

Hello there,

Have you tried doing a power cycle? By removing the battery for 30 minutes to an hour. This will do a reset of the system.

Let me know how that goes.

Good luck!

Refer to the "Magnified Close-Up Shooting (Digital Macro)" section of the manual (page 70 in my copy). If you need a manual, you can download one at
http://gdlp01.c-wss.com/gds/4/0900009924/01/PSSD950IS_IXUS960IS_CUG_EN.pdf

Be aware that you will get almost no depth of field at close distances. You also have to be careful about lighting, you don't want to cast a shadow onto the subject. Any camera motion will be magnified, so you might want to use a tripod or some other support. A good library or bookstore will have books with sections on close-up/macro shooting, as well as entire books on the subject.

Consider NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program.

I have a similar problem with my camera which is about 2 or 3 years old. Seems to be a circuit board issue. Costs about €90 to €100.
