Can't transfer images from my canon 40d to

Try NOT connecting your camera to your computer. The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program such as Picasa.

Canon EOS 40D won't export my pictures onto my computer

Sometimes you need to have the driver files for the particular camera. The 40D does require this and I experienced the same issue. You may be able to download the files at the Canon website. Try this link:

Auto focus not working

The lens AF mode is not working. What lens is it you are using?

It is not a camera issue but a lens issue. Try a different lens to be certain.

Intermittently I get a message 'Err 01 - Communications between camera and lens is faulty. Clean lens contacts'

I will say its faulty device. If it is still in warranty it will be better if you can take it to customer service center. Audi Parts

40D turns off as I press shutter button

The shutter mechanism had to be replaced. I've heard that this is a typical 40D problem, due to a shutter design flaw. They say that it has been fixed on replacement shutters.

Error 99

There are many possible causes for this and unfortunately, some require expensive repairs. First, however, try turning the camera off and (in a clean, dust-free environment) removing the lens. Clean the electronic contacts on both the camera and lens (q-tip with 70% isopropyl alcohol is fine). Let is dry and then reassemble. Sometimes this is a lens issue.

Canon eos d40 makes a long noise before it takes a picture

It sounds as though you have activated one of the timers. On the LCD display on top of the camera look in the bottom right-hand corner of the display and see if there is a symbol that looks a bit like a one-handed clock (the timer symbol). If so, press the AF-Drive button on top of the camera and rotate the large, circular selector dial on the back of the camera until that symbol goes away. Now the camera should shoot normally.

What setting do I use to take clear pictures of moving hair?

Your problem is that your shutter speed is too low. If your concern is primarily stopping movement (hair or other) you need to increase your shutter speed or use a flash. If you don't wish to use the flash (or it is already too bright), then use the Tv mode on your camera (Shutter Priority) which controls the shutter speed. The value will vary based on the speed of your object and the amount of light in the scene. I would suggest starting with a value of 1/250 second which will probably be sufficient to freeze most hair movement. Note that as you increase the speed, you need more light.

Shoot 5 pictures and get error 99

There are over 40 different malfunctions that can cause an error 99 on a Canon 40D. The 2 that account for over 95% of the error 99's are either a bad shutter mechanism or a bad mirror driving motor. It takes special diagnostic software to determine the exact cause. Otherwise, a repairer just has to start replacing parts until the problem goes away.Bob Kilbourn www.camerarepairs.com
