The thing is, in the back of the printer you have a column of jacks, the one on top has an icon of a phone and the one on bottom has a picture of an “L” or laptop. TAKE YOUR USB CORD OUT OF EITHER ONE OF THOSE, NO MATTER WHICH ONE IT MAY BE. What you may not have figured out by now is that there is a THIRD jack that is nowhere near those two. If you’re facing the front of the printer to the far right of the backside of the machine, there is this deep cavity that has your third, miracle jack in it. It’s even more to the right than the two jacks I described previously and its icon looks like a sideways, three-pronged cactus. Plug the square end of the USB cord into that jack, and the In Use/Memory light should stop blinking, and your printer can stop acting like car because the annoying, turn-signal clicking should stop as well. :)

My MX310 got a paper jam and when i pulled the
Remove the paper following the procedure below.
(1) Slowly pull the paper out, either from the Rear Tray or from the Paper Output Slot, whichever is easier.
If the paper tears and a piece remains inside the machine, turn the machine off, open the Scanning Unit (Printer Cover) and remove it.
Be careful not to touch the components inside the machine.
After removing all paper, close the Scanning Unit (Printer Cover), and turn it back on.
If you cannot pull the paper out, turn the machine off and turn it back on. The paper will be ejected automatically.
(2) Reload the paper in the machine, and press the OK button on the machine.
Canon MX310 Scanner Error
The scanner mechanism is locked....there should be a bar or button that slides to lock/unlock. Probably a picture of a lock.....this prevents damage while transporting the device....
Paperjam
If you've thoroughly checked all path ways on it. Try powering it off, removing the power cord to it. At the same time power down your computer and leave it off for a few minutes. Plug the power back into the printer, turn it on. See if the ready light comes on. Power up the PC. Also check that there isn't still a print job stuck in the que. If so, delete it.
Paper jam message
Look for little pieces of paper that get stuck in the rollers, also verify that the gears and roller didn't get misaligned when you cleared the jam.

Can't receive or send fax
Unfortunately Voip communication protocols are usually not fax friendly. I was able to send fax from older fax machine (when the only plugged in to the router was my Viop box. But new Canon Faxes are using some new communication, that seems to be even more difficult to fax over Voip. It also depends what kind of set up is on reciever end. Try to find out what kind of protocol are you using (ask you provider) and if there is any option in using different protocl, that may be able to transmit fax signal.
Canon mx310 cannot communicate with scanner
This is a bizarre solution: Make sure the "Still Image Service" is running on your system. Right-click "My Computer", select "Manage", then open "Services" applet. Scroll down to the "Still Image Service", right-click it and set its properties to "Automatic", then right-click it and "Start" it.
