Yes and No. Non branded ink cartridges need to be properly programed to work correctly. If you are going to buy non branded, make sure you can trust the seller. Research the seller and you should be ok. Branded is always the best but also always more expensive and non branded always comes with a degree of risk.
maybe the scanner rail of scanner has been stuck that's why when you turn on your printer there's an error!!! or if you can try to open the scanner and clean the motor and the belt.
it might dirt or something that causing your printer to turn it on or causes-sing error.
for my opinion plss.. check the scanner we have desame cases in my printer too. I open the scanner and clean it then it works..
I got my printer to work (finally! #$^%$%) by moving the ink carriage back and forth a bit gently and then I sprayed a small amount of WD40 on a lint free small cloth and wiped the silver bar inside with it. I slid the carriage slowly from one side to the left and it seemed to stick less. I thought my printer was broken so I figured it couldn't do any more harm and lo and behold it worked! My printer went back to the normal screen after turning it back on and I am finishing the print job that I never thought would happen. YAY!
It is very common problem I had also same problem but I sorted it out and now My printer is working good.

Did you use Epson Genuine Cartridges? ALL…. Epson & Brother Requires Genuine Cartridges. !!!!!!!! That sounds like your problem. In Purchasing Epson's CX 5400, CX4600, & CX7400 and more, I found out that Epson does not like Generic Printer Cartridges. I also Purchased a Brother MFC-240C All-In-One InkJet Printer. That also does not like Generic Print Cartridges. Color that should be Yellow, will turn out Green, Blue Brown, etc. These printers have a CHIP that will detect if it is Generic or Genuine. When they see it’s Generic Cartridges, it will print lines thru the words, stripes across the picture and also do a mix match with the colors. It also will not let you print anything, if only one of the cartridges is empty.
I wanted to print only Black, and would not let me, because I did not have any ink in one of my cyan cartridges. Go figure.
That's what these Companies do., so they can keep selling the ink cartridges. Some Printers, are able to use Generic, and some are refillable. Some you can refill them up yourself and I heard, quite MESSY.
So I learned, thru trial and error, that you must use the ORIGINAL Genuine Cartridges for these PRINTERS. Some people say some models work fine compatible, but not mine.......
I had to replace the printer, but Epson, Lexmark & Brothers are always on sale. My Brother & Epson cost me $50.00 with Rebate. . IF YOU ARE USING GENERIC CARTRIDGES, MAYBE IT WOULD BE BETTER IF YOU DISABLE THE INK MONITOR. This is the only advice I can give you. The next step would be to disassemble the Epson, and clean the Pads/Heads. Check the compatibility of the driver with the OS version:Windows 8 (32 or 64 bits), Windows 7 (32 bits or 64 bits) , Vista (32 b, 64 b), XP (32 bits , 64 bits). You should try to use the software that shipped with the printer. When installing, choose local printer (USB), or Network (Ethernet cable, or Wireless).
>disconnect the unit from the computer >try to make a standalone copy >if the message still appears on the printer´s LCD screen, hardware issue >contact vendor for warranty
