Document Jam Error Message on Brother MFC-8660DN

I had the same problem with a Brother MFC-8460 and called Brother's support line. The solution that worked for me was to lift the top cover where the sheets of paper go through when you fax. On the right of the black rectangluar piece with grey roller there is a slot in the tray with a black lever inside. The black piece was stuck down inside the slot and had to be popped back out. Once it was out I hit the stop button and it was fixed!!

Where is MP tray?

The MP Tray is just above the main paper tray and can be accessed by opening the MP Tray door. To open, pull on either the left or right side of the front door by the circular cutout.

My printer Document Jam but there is no jam

Opens the Feed lid. 3.5 cms (1 1/2 or 1.5 inches) to the right of the gray roller is a 2.5 cm x 3mm) (1.00 inch 3/16") slot.If there is not a black plastic tongue (1.3 x .5 cm) sticking out of the slot that is the problem. Free up with a paperclip.

Keeps saying no paper Makes loud clicking noise

The clicking sounds seems to be made by the small gears on the side of the tray. When you move the gears, it should push a plate beneath the paper upwards, and the paper with it, allowing the paper to be feed.

I'm not sure what I did to fix it. I removed the paper and cleaned both feeding rectangles (to the front of the tray -- nearest you). One is underneath the paper and the other is in the front, center.

I then made sure that, when I move the biggest gear (the one that isn't round) that the paper moves upwards.

Fax

This problem could be Phone line problem, or hardware failure or receiver's (the machine of the person whom you are sending the fax) machine problem and so on. First, let's check the line, if you have another Phone line, please dial from the number to your number, also, connect the currently connected line to a receiver and call a Land-line number, if the outgoing or incoming is ok, the proceed forward, otherwise, you telephone operator should check the line.

Sometimes, sending fax to a particular number doesn't work, to make sure, try sending a fax to another number.

If the line which is connected to the machine is extended from another machine such as Receiver, Switch, etc... unplug them and connect the fax machine directly to the Line.

It's also important to adjust the compatibility mode, to do this, follow the steps below:
  • Press Menu.
  • Press the up or down arrow key to select Fax.
  • Press OK.
  • Press the up or down arrow key to select Miscellaneous.
  • Press OK.
  • Press the up or down arrow key to select Compatibility.
  • Press the left or right arrow key to select Basic (for VoIP).
  • Press OK.
  • Press Stop/Exit.

If you place the scanning document/file on the auto-sheet feeder, you can help it pulling inside the passage or you can use the glass (flatbed) instead. Sometimes, this small mistakes with the sheet-feeder creates this problem. You can also clean the rollers inside the ADF (auto document feeder) passage.

If all of the above measure don't help, I would suggest you to call brother and seek their help. The rest is with mechanical or we can say hardware or firmware related issue. (use this form to contact Brother)

I wish you good luck.

Thanks for using FixYa.

I repeatedly get a paper jam inside the unit.

Sometimes you have to actually turn the thing upside down to remove a piece of paper. It can be so tiny and cause a "paper jam". Look on the back of your printer and see if there is a "lock" door. If so, you may be able to get it out through there.

When printing paper comes out all

It the paper comes out crinkled or accordion looking then it is your fuser. Check where your the paper comes out of. There might be a piece of paper jammed in there that is causing this. If no obstuctions then it might be the roller on the fuser cracking and cause it to crinkle the paper. The fuser is the last thing the paper goes through before coming out. It "fuses" the toner to the paper.
