There are several possible causes for "memory card locked / write protected", "memory card error", or "no memory card". The coolpix cable has a usb on one end and the other is nikon specific connection. you will need to buy a cable for a usb/nikon connection.

you can go onto the internet type in the name of your camera and it should give you a screen for support on that page to call and where to send it

Your problem may be due to corrosion on the battery contacts inside the camera which can prevent the full power of the batteries from flowing into the camera. Try this free fix before you do anything else: remove the batteries and wipe the camera contacts firmly with a dry cloth (heavy corrosion may require cleaning with a wire brush, steel wool, or sandpaper). Remove any residue that may have fallen into the battery compartment during cleaning, then wipe both ends of the batteries and place them back in the camera. This cleaning clears the problem about 90% of the time. If it doesn't work for you, the camera may have a problem that requires professional repair.

Try using a card reader to download it to a folder you create on your desktop. Then, double-click on it to play.

Most of these kinds of errors come as a result of some kind of impact, sand or dirt exposure, possible water damage, or some other problem with the lens.
There is a possibility that the lens is off track.
Try pulling or pushing (not too hard either way) and see if it may be off track and return it to the correct setting.
Since it is not working anyway, try the above a few times and then test the camera to work right.
I have fixed more than one with similar (off track problems) and they worked good after wards.
Worth a try.
If nothing works, I suggest to sell it (include all that you have with the sale) on a site such as Ebay as parts, or as is repair. It should bring something like $20.00 to $50.00. The LCD is worth something over $15.00 alone. The other parts of the camera has value to those who repair cameras.
