No one can tell you exactly which part is bad without looking at the TV. Like a car, a person can only guess without taking a look at the set. But there is a part inside the TV that needs to be replaced. If the TV is under warranty—whether the original warranty from the manufacture or an extended warranty purchased with the TV—call the company providing the warranty coverage and they will arrange to have your TV repaired at little, or no cost to you.

Since some brands will pay for your repair even if you're out of warranty, especially if they've heard of your problem before and it's a known issue, you should contact Vizio first for your full range of options. If they're willing to fix the TV for free, or at a reduced cost to you, let them!


If the TV is out of warranty, and you have the experience and you know what you're doing, you can fix the TV yourself. Purchase the service manual from the manufacture to get started. However, if you've never done anything like this type of repair before and you don't know where to start, I suggest speaking with an experienced TV repair-person.


If you decide to pay for out of warranty repair by a professional repair shop, the total cost will likely be a minimum of $200 parts and labor. However, be warned that the cost could be considerably higher.

There are two places to look for the problems, the backlight inverter board and the power supply. Look at the power supply first since it is easier to get to, look for burnt parts, bad capacitors, etc.

I had the same problem after having a Vizio for 2 and a half years. I left the room for a minute, i came back and the screen went black. There was still power to the unit and you could see that the back light was working, just no picture, no sound, and you couldn't use any of the buttons. The only way to turn it off was to unplug it. It would then start up, with the Vizio logo going from orange to white, and then do the same thing all over, no pic or sound.

HOW I FIXED MINE:Look through the back vents for a white light to make sure the backlight still works. I ordered a new "main PCB" from tigerdirectparts.com (you can also use searspartsdirect.com). This is the circuit board with all of the inputs on it (hdmi, cable, etc.) I opened it up, disconnected the old one, put in a new one and now it works fine. I used both serial numbers on the board to search for it online. It cost me $144 to do it, but that's better than $450 for a new TV. My tv is the vx32l hdtv10a. I hope that helps.

For me the part number was either (depending on the vendor) : 0171 2272 2174 or it was 3632 0212 0150. Check your circuit and see if any of those numbers match up.

Well it seems that there is some problem in the power supply unit, so you need to check them you need a ohms meter so, you can check the voltages supplied by the power supply.When "off" the power supply supplies 5VDC to the system, allowing things like the buttons and the status light to function. These functions also depend on the mainboard.
If the power is good, I suspect the issue might actually lie in the mainboard.
You can check this. If you have a ohms meter you can check between ground (any metal of the case) and one of the wires coming from the power supply is supplying 5VDC standby. If it is and the indicator light isn't on, the mainboard is likely at fault.
If there is no 5VDC standby voltage being supplied from the power supply, the fault is in the supply.

80% of TVs are having this same problem in different brands.
I'm sure Carlos meant well. If you took it to someone to have it fixed, then yes, it would be cheaper to by a new TV. ( Labor + Part )

But, if you can repair your TV yourself for less than a $100 vs buying a new TV for over $450, would it be worth it? ( Part alone )
If you or someone you know can replace a whole ciruit board, then it can be fixed.

You'll just need to find the right one by looking at yours. Your backlight board will have letters & numbers on it for a board model#. It should be easy to find one and replace it.

Having the same problem, but thankfully, i purchased the extended warranty. i will let you know what they find.

Not sure of your question.It's Apples n Oranges.The Digital TV does not need a Ditital converter box, the DVD if an older model does.The DVD recorder also needs a remote sensor and needs to learn how to switch channels if it was able to do so before.The issue is your DVR go to the Manufactures Website for more info.If you just want to record what you watch on the TV connect the TV Audio Video out to DVR IN.Good Luck

Dessasembly the remote control:
1.Clean,use the izopropilic alcool or 75%alcool or finest wisky the remote taste rubber pad.
2.Assembly the remote control,change the batteries(see the polarity).
3.Near on functional in the FM or MW radio (the distance to remote and speakerphone max.10cm) press any buttons to the remote control.If you can hear the emitent signal in the speakerphone ,the remote is work.
4.Try the remote to TV.If work is OK,if not change the infra LED.

Hi, if the red,blue and yellow are lines from top to bottom you need the main screen (panel) replaced and vizio does not supply any parts other than the signal and power boards. If the colors are more blotchy it may be the signal board that is bad , but most likely it is the panel that i bad. sorry. this diagnosis is the best guess given the limited info provided.. hope this help.

Make sure the twisted pair cable (multiple colored wires each twisted with a white wire) at the top of the main board (J7) is plugged in very tight, and tape it down with none conductive tape once it is making good contact. This should take care of the problem.

This sound comes from something short-circuit. Probaly, the cap exploded. Open the cover and see if the power supply has problem, you need to relpace it.

this site provides you with a simple program you can down load, I have used it myself on a lap top and a flat screen and it works the best. you may have to purchase it to run it for up to 48 hours, but it saved me 300 in repairs or new monitors

You can not use external speakers unless they are part of a home theater equipment (or similar device), I recomend you to try to adjust the volume settings in your TV first.
