My Hotpoint Side-by-side temperature flucuates(model

You are correct on your evaluation of the " tech " the # 4 thermistor is bad . This tells the main control board , the temp of the coils , if they need defrosted , when they are thru defrosting . This thermistor is the 1 " long , torpedo looking piece , clipped on the top left of the coils , with 2 white wires going to it . Part number WR55X10025 . It would be advisable to also replace the # 5 thermistor , located at the bottom of the freezer , slightly in front of the drain , also with 2 white wires going to it , slid into a housing . This thermistor , is the freezer thermistor , which tells the control board , the freezer temp and when to cycle off due to selected temperature .

POOR COOLING

Things You'll Need:
  • Scrub Brush
  • Soap
  • Soap
  • Dollar Bill
  • Cord Caulk
  • Replacement Gasket
  • Screwdriver, or nut driver and socket

Inspecting and cleaning a door gasket
  1. Step 1 Inspect the gasket for dirt or debris that could prevent it from sealing. If you find any, remove the large debris, then wash the gasket, using a scrub brush and warm, soapy water.
  2. Step 2 Check the gasket for cracks or tears that can let cold air escape. If you find any, replace the gasket. If the gasket appears to be solid, go on to step 3.
  3. Step 3 Check the seal: Open the door, insert a dollar bill partway and shut the door on the bill. Try to pull out the bill. You should feel some resistance. Repeat the test at several points around each door. If the bill slips out easily, replace the gasket.
  4. Replacing a door gasket
  5. Step 1 Remove the old gasket. It is held to the refrigerator by screws and a retainer strip that runs around all four sides of the door. Lift the lip of the gasket so you can see the screws. Loosen but do not remove the screws, using a screwdriver or a nut driver and socket. Pull the gasket from the retainer strip.
  6. Step 2 Buy a replacement gasket--and a package of cord caulk--at an appliance store.
  7. Step 3 Prepare the new gasket for installation: Soak it in warm water to soften it. Then place a 2-inch (5-cm) strip of cord caulk at each corner of the door where the gasket will sit. This will keep the gasket from curling at the corners when it's installed.
  8. Step 4 Install the new gasket: Slip the bead on the back of the gasket under the retainer strip. Tighten the retainer screws. Do the top and the bottom, then the sides. Make sure the gasket is straight and flat when you're done.
  9. Step 5 Close the door and check that the new gasket is touching on all four sides. If it isn't, the door has twisted while the gasket screws were loose, and you'll need to adjust it.
  10. Step 6 To adjust the door, loosen the retainer screws slightly, then grab the door at opposite corners and push or pull to remove the twist. Tighten the screws, then shut the door and recheck alignment. If the door still appears warped, repeat the process.
jQuery('.article ol .image').each(function(i,e){ var $this = jQuery(this); $this.find('img').error(function(){ jQuery(this).remove(); $this.remove(); }); }); Tips & Warnings
  • Before removing a gasket, empty the shelves on the door. This will reduce the likelihood that the door will warp when you loosen the retainer screws.
  • Dirt and debris can quickly collect in the grooves in your door gaskets. To keep them sealing properly, check them every few months.

I have a hotpoint fridge with water on the door.

Very common problem. Usually it is caused by a bad insulation of the door. Try turning it off for 72 hours. That way not only the insulation of the door will thaw, it will also dry out. It should last longer, when it's not wet. The easiest solution is to replace the door, but it's not reasonable pricewise.

The water will not come out but it will make ice

Hello. Chances are that the water in the water tube is frozen blocking the flow. Use a hair blow dryer to warm up the water tube and it should start to work again. Regards, Joe

This could be your switch to your dispensor or your water valve. How old is this unit and how long has it been since you replaced the valve?

Replaced water filter, water stopped working at all after 3 weeks

Remove lower grill and disconnect the water line going through the freezer door hinge. Usually it is a push lock fitting, which requires you to push the ring on the end of the fitting toward the center of the fitting while pulling (not hard) on the plastic tube. Now place a pan under the separated plastic hose and try the water dispenser. If water comes out, your problem is a frozen water line in the freezer door. A warmer freezer temp may help, or you can order and install a WR49X101073 water tube heater. (the heater may take 24 hours to thaw the line, but I have used it successfully several times. Cost about $50) If no water comes out the separated tube when you try to dispense water, reconnect the tube at the hinge by pushing the plastic line back into the fitting. Now, at the back of the refrig., disconnect the water line going from the water valve to the fresh foods compartment. Try to dispense water. No water at valve outlet = bad valve. Water dispensed from valve now = frozen water filter or water line at back bottom of fresh foods compartment. (make sure you disconnect the right tube. If in doubt, disconnect them both, just get them back correctly so your icemaker continues to work) Send me additional comments if needed. Don't rate before you try all the steps.

Comment by MNTECH, posted on May 20, 2009 Sorry, didn't notice that I put an extra zero in the part number. It should be a WR49X10173

The water feed to the ice maker will not shut off.

Either the water valve has stuck open or the IM water switch is stuck. Unplug the wires from the water valve and see if the water has stopped. If yes it is the switch, if still running in the it is the valve.

If you have a 5 year warranty, you should not take anything apart and consult the place where you got the appliance.
They should be able to tell you exactly what is covered under warranty before they work on it.
