Are you sure about the color wheel and the lamp? Make sure the lamp is Osram brand or it may not work.

The hum comes from a bad 60 cycle bleed into the audio circuit usually from a bad capacitor or other failed component. It will need to go to a television shop for service, but I would recommend replacement. $500 and you have a new TV verses $400 and you still have the same old worn out unit. The other cause could be you have the audio and video cables reversed on a video input.

Without seeing a photo it sounds like the picture is letterbox with top and bottom black areas---if not that it sounds like a possible issue with the optical light engine the set uses to project the image on to the screen----most of this is not customer repairable.

sesshomaru69, Is your tv LCD or Plasma? How old iis it? Is it still covered by Warranty? Your symptom sounds like it could be a power supply problem internal to the set. You will need to have a service tech look at it. Probably the Switch-Mode-Power-Supply has sensed a failure with some other circuit or with itself and goes into what is known as SHUTDOWN mode to save itself from becoming a catastrophic failure. Your best shot will be to have someone look at it.
Zenith has a building somewhere in Lincolnshire, Illinois but they are owned by LG (Lucky Goldstar) Korea. Most likely everything in the tv is from the Far East and assembled in Mexico, but that's just a guess!!! I'm louie12fix on fixya or lmistyrel @ aol.com Bye for now.

It is the lamp 99% sure

3 things should be done with this model

1- make sure the lamp door is secure and not warped
2- clean all fans and filter
3- re-solder the power supply if needed.
