3 blinks of Standby/power LED of Sony sets denotes a SMPS board [G-board] failure. . Make sure about the exact number of blinking of the standby/power LED, by switching On & OFF the set, for at least two times. Count it carefully. It seems that the internal filter (on front of the lamp) shifted or maybe dislodged from the correct position.

5 Blinks on this unit is not your lamp. Your lamp driver aka ballast is the problem. Very small chance that the G board is defective but I doubt it.

I would not feed it another lamp, if going to do anything replace both.

Was the sets Lamp replaced recently and what if any lights on front of set blink when it goes off (error code)?

Remove and examine lamp to see if shattered--lamp has a 2,000 hour lifespan and may look good--if it fails the lamp light on sets front should light. A ballast is harder to call--can check the approx 300 volts from the power supply to see if it shows at ballast.Video instructions for lamp replacement are by model number available on You Tube for most sets.

If lamp has not been replaced recently it may be the issue----2,000 hour lifespan which works out to about two years.Based on model you indicate the lamp in your set is customer replaceable.

Some of these sets there is a recall and free repair with light engine issues which it sounds like you have.Contact either a local Sony authorized dealer or Sony via the internet or by phone.

Nine blinks - Replace D 6116 and D 6301 on the "G" board, do not resolder as this will fix the problem temporary. Or Panel Module Error or Thermal Error. If it is intermittent 9 blinks, meaning sometimes the TV comes on and other times you get flashing, then change the switching regulator on the "G" board or check connections. Make sure the regulator is -12 or -13 (negitive)

There is no other way than contact the nearest Sony authorised service center. They only can provide it to you. Sony won't send it to an individual, or you can't find it from any electronic spare part shop. OK.

This is an indication of out-of-regulation in the power supply section. The very common caused of this fault is the leaky electrolytic capacitor in that section. It will drop the supply from normal voltage and will disable the unit.It needs a little warm-up to make itself stable but the symptom will get worst. Sometimes it has a bulged/dome at the top but not all, it is better that you have a capacitor checker/tester to determine its condition. Your unit will back to normal again if the leaky capacitor is isolated.

If you don't have necessary tools and test instruments, and can't do the job yourself, I would advice you to look for a professional to troubleshoot the problem. Don't attempt to work in the power supply if you don't know the safety precaution of handling it, there some stored electricity enough to hurt you with a little mistake only.

Also check if your unit is under warranty /extended warranty, avail it because the manufacturer of your unit will fix it for free. Don't open the back panel, this will void the warranty.

Let your unit cool down for an hour, give proper ventilation and air flow. keep away all the obstruction from the vent, the processor has a built in thermal sensor that might be trigger by peak temp on the main board.

If you touched the glass lens part in the front of the lamp will you were installing it, it will burn the lamp and screw up. If you did do this you may need a new lamp. Sorry but thats about all you can do.

i have been a tech for 26 yrs now i have seen so many postings on here about bulging caps and so on but there is only 1 thing to do our workshop has 18000 dollars in test equipment alone there is a great reason for this the amount of vereables that can go wrong with nano electronics there is no easy fix to this problem it needs to be seen by a certified electronics tech this is your best chance of having this tv fixed correctly im not putting down other techs on this site but some things we can fix by computer network some we cant imagine even if this tv was in my workshop right now it would take us over an hour just to find and fix the cause

Lamp,if it was the Ballast Lamp will not come on because Ballast Board is what Powers Lamp.
