Hi, i've had my dirt devil for a couple years now

Detach the hose at both ends. Drop a coin or marble down one end. If it rolls free, the hose is okay. If not, the hose is clogged. To clear it hold the wrong end of the hose to the tank and turn on. The reverse suction should clear the blockage. If not, try pushing it clear with a broom stick.
Check the power head where the hose attaches. Drop a coin down from the top. If it gets stuck, there's a blockage there. Try to clear it by pushing the handle of a wooden spoon or similar dull item down to push it clear.
Depending on the noise the vacuum is making, it's also possible some dust/debris got into the motor, causing problems.

Can I buy the belt

4 and 5 are the same belt size. It will work. I am not sure about walmart, you can try. Canadian tire, again I am not sure. A local vac shop will have the belt for sure. If no local vac shop... canadian tire should be able to special order.

Do NOT use anything other than a dirt devil 4/5 belt.

Good luck.

How do you adjust a self adjusting vacuum. It's

honestly you cant adjust it. There is nothing you can do to it to make it adjustable either.

What I feel is the actual problem is maybe your belt is slipping on the brush roller and not making it easy to push anymore. a belt should be changed once per year, or if you are a pet lover, 2 times a year.

let me know how this works for you.
Good luck.

The belts keep busting. i

1) could be the belts you are using are not for that particular model.

2) depending on what you are vacuuming, a rug on the floor for example with tassels will always break the belt when it gets caught into the roller brush.

Sounds stupid but how to i connect the hose?

the hose on a dirt devil upright attaches on the side near the bottom of the plastic container that hold the dirt; that end goes in and gives suction to the power head.the other end goes on the other side closer to the top of the plastic container again on the side. If you look at the bottom of the machine you should see a hose going from the power head to the machine and it leads up and attaches to the long hose. It is the other side it attaches near the suction to create the air flow. You can also check your owners manual. Thanks and good luck. If this helps don't for get to click on the yes box on your way out.

Most likely the roller is frozen due to dirt and debris. Follow the instructions to remove the belt and roller. Clean the roller as best you can and at each end where the hard rubber holders are located. Add some WD40 between the brush and these holders and turn by hand until the holders move freely around the brush. Reassemble making sure the belt is on in the correct manner so the brush rotates in the proper direction.

Hi, The belt of our

Did you check to see that the beater brush, the brush that the belt drives, is free of debris and moves freely? When they bind up they can cause the belt to break. Remove the beater brush just as you do when changing the belt and clean as best you can. There are retainer clips at each end of the brush, add some WD40 between the clips and the beater brush and turn by hand to free it up. Reassemble making sure the belt is on in the proper manner so that the brush will turn in the correct direction. If you find this solution helpful, I would appreciate a Thumbs Up from you!

I cleaned the belt area and removed all of the

This can be caused by a loose or worn belt that is continually slipping on the brush. It simply needs replaced with the correct belt.
It can also be caused by the belt being caught on something by the shaft. In this case, the power head needs to be taken apart to check for improper placement of belt.
The vacuum motor could also be overheating, which would more than likely be caused by a plugged hose. Disconnect hose from power head and vacuum, then try to roll a marble or small ball through it. Also, check the vacuum's hose port for a plug. Another area to check is the tube in the power head. Clear if needed before continueing operation.

Automatic height adjuster is not working,it grabs

Hi There,

Actually usually when this happens, it's usually the belt that causes the brush to stop and not the height adjustment. What happens is, over time the belt will get hot, which causes the belt to stretch. Once the belt stretches out, it becomes too long, and will stop the brush from spinning when it feels any resistance to the brushes. This is most likely why the brush is stopping when you put it down on the carpet.

I'm pretty confident that if you replace the belt on your vacuum, this should fix the problem of your brush stopping when it hits the carpeting.

Here's a link to the owners manual for your vacuum that will explain step by step how to replace the belt:

I hope this information was helpful to you. If this did help you solve your problem, please be so kind and rate my repair, or leave feedback for me. Thanks so much,
