If you find that the GoGear will not load the firmware upgrade, then:
1) Backup all files on the GoGear
2) Open up Philips Device Manager (Start --> All Programs --> Philips)
3) Click on the Repair Tab, and look for a msg that says connect the player while holding the volume + button
4) Disconnect the GoGear from the computer and turn the GoGear off - hold in the volume + button and continue to hold it as you reconnect the GoGear to the computer; after holding the volume + button for up to 20 or 30 seconds, a window will open up saying that your device is being repaired (now you can let go of the volume + button); after the repair is successfully complete, your GoGear will be good as new
You will now be able to load the upgrade
Also, if the Philips Device Manager says that your device is already updated with the latest software, then go to: www. usasupport. philips. com,and enter in your model number, SA5125/37, on the next page select SA5125/37 (not "37B"), on the next page click on software and drives, and click on Firmware Upgrade Software - this will ensure that your player really has been given the most current firmware upgrade

Help!!!
If you have clicked repair, and it is telling you that the repair failed, then the player needs to be replaced.
Otherwise:
Either the device is bad, the pc port is bad, or the software is faulty. Try connecting to different usb port, then a usb port on a different pc with a compatible os. If still not recognized, then there is physical damage to player.
Try this: disconnect the player from the computer, turn it off, hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says Found New Hardware Wizard.

MP3 FROZEN
Make sure the songs are in the correct format first - no iTunes allowed. it's best to use songs in mp3 format - they don't have the million problems that WMA files have.
If the pc is not recognizing GoGear: Either the device is bad, the pc port is bad, or the software is faulty. Try connecting to different usb port, then a usb port on a different pc with a compatible os. If still not recognized, then there is physical damage to player.
Try this: disconnect the player from the computer, turn it off, hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in. Does not recognize
Ahh - you have Vista! You MUST get the newer version of the software from www.usasupport.philips.com. Enter your model number and go to the "software & drivers" section. Download the updated version of the device/firmware manager. Once the Vista-compatible version of the software is installed, then you can go to the Update tab and the firmware upgrade that you need will be installed - you will not get the "your player's firmware is already up to date message."

Freezes on me
There is a hold switch on that player - when the hold is engaged, only the volume buttons work. Read your user's manaul for instructions on how to unengage it, but all you have to do is slide the hold switch toward the top of the player and release.
If you find that, after checking the hold switch, your player is still freezing up on you, get the latest firmware upgrade from Philips' website. www.usasupport.philips.com.

Try checking this URL
http://www.usasupport.philips.com/consumer/productDocuments.html?ProductCode=SA1335/37&subCat=FLASH_AUDIO_PLAYERS_SU_US_CONSUMER
check their Frequently Asked Questions and look for the question re power/battery;
This device appears to be dead or no power with nothing on display.
Their last suggestion is to check whether the firmware might be corrupted. You might want to call Phillips as well for the warranty of your player.

Phillips go gear SA5125 mp3 player
Make sure you are using the original USB cable that came supplied with the GoGear, and then try the volume + method again. If the volume + method doesn't work, then there is a problem with the USB port recognziing the device being plugged in - or, the player was physically damaged.

File copy please
Reformat player - will not require software code - you can reformat through the computer or through Windows Media Player, and then perform a firmware upgrade.
There is an address in your manual for some guy in Hong Kong that has the code - he will send it if he chooses -he will not post it on the internet - no one else has it - you must write to the address in the manual to get it.

Short battery life
Get a replacement from Philips if it seems abnormal and you are still under warranty. 8-9 hours is normal battery life for this unit - the product specs are "ideal" - not relaistic. No way to dim this unit.

Please help me.
There is not a virus most likely, but here is how you will start from scratch. Connect GoGear to computer --> Open Philips Device Manager --> click on Repair --> Click on Repair again
Then do the same for "Update"
If this fails, reformat the GoGear in Windows Media Player - consult
www.Microsoft.com for instructions WITH pictures.on how to do this (Click sync --> open drop down menu under Sync tab --> click on Philips goGear SAXXXX --> click on Format)
These methods will start you over from scratch.
