Hello, I am having an issue with my Ipod. It gives me an error code when I plug it in saying that it cannot sync because the files or directory has become corrupt and unreadable. Someone on the Apple site suggested (to someone else with a simular issue) that this could be caused by locked files in the directory. I am good at following step-by-step instructions, but have no clue how to even access this directory so I can *see* if anything is locked. Any ideas? Thanks!!

THE SOLUTION IS EASY, REBOOT YOUR IPOD! IT WILL WORK!
I JUST SPENT DAYS GOING CRAZY ABOUT THIS!!! I CALLED APPLE TWICE AND THEY TOLD ME TO REINSTALL AND UPDATE BUT I DIDN'T DO ANYTHING..
THEN I FOUND SOMEONE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM AND ALL THEY DID WAS REBOOT THEY'RE IPOD. HOLD DOWN THE MIDDLE AND MENU BUTTON ON YOUR IPOD, GIVE IT 10 SECONDS, LET IT BREATHE AND THEN PROCEED TO HOOK IT UP TO YOUR ITUNES(RESTART YOUR ITUNES AS WELL)... VOILA IT SHOULD WORK AND SYNC...

I connect my iPod to my computer and neither iTunes nor my computer recognizes my iPod. My iPod will start to charge but the battery meter varies greatly. Both my computer and iTunes recognize my wife's 30gb video and her sister’s 2gb nano when connected. Can you please help me?

hold down the middle button and the Menu button until the apple icon came up on my iPod. At once, the iPod icon returned to my desktop AND on my iTunes window. Works great now. Just like nothing happened.Good Luck!!!!!!!

Player seems to lock up in the middle of playing a song and is very difficult to unlock. I have been using it with an iPod Player/Amplifier and leaving it plugged in. Right now it is on and I am unable to turn it off or complete any functions.
Appreciate help....Edward Northey.

First make sure your hold switch isn't on. It's on the top or bottom and slides
back and forth. It needs to be switched to the left. Once it is to the
left, here's how you reset:
You can reset your ipod by holding down the menu and select (round button in the center) buttons down for at least 10 seconds. You'll see an apple logo flash, that's when you stop pressing the buttons. It will shut off, then back on.

Probably due to damage in the headphone port, sound will only play out of the left speaker. This is with any set of headphones, so I know the headphones are not the issue. Is there anything I can do?

Short of actually repairing it, you can pick up a mono to stereo adapter for a couple a bucks at Radio Shack...

My ipod won't turn on, even when i hold down the play and menu buttons. I tried to reset it, but the apple logo just appears and then nothing else happens. I hooked it up to my laptop but the computer won't recognise it, then the screen flashes for a second displaying an unhappy face and a link to the apple support site, then returns to the apple logo, next the backlight shines showing the sign saying "please wait, very low battery". What does this mean, and how can i fix the problem, please?

N1amh, your problem could be battery related or could be other problems. Apple's website has a good checklist for troubleshooting power source problems (may be a faulty USB port or cable). In brief, if you have other USB ports, powered hubs, or speaker-charger options, try these and see if you get the 'pod to charge. If it seems to charge, but then quickly drains and you get a series of rapid beeps and then the low battery message, it *could* be a sign that the hard drive needs replacement. (This isn't a definite diagnostic). The website ifixit.com has good do-it-yourself instructions for replacing batteries, etc. and can also sell you tools and parts. I've replaced the battery, screen and headphone jack on my daughter's 30gig video ipod, at different times, and it's do-able, though it's awfully easy to break one or more of the plastic closure tabs each time you open up the case. If you need to replace the hard drive, I read on another site that you can get decent drives for around $30 new on ebay. Best of luck!

The ipod 5th generation always shows a picture of the plug on the battery. It charges fine when plugged into a wall and will work without being plugged in, but will die after 8 hours or so. It always thinks its on after having plugged it in. Tried resetting on battery power - tried resetting when plugged in - updated both itunes and ipod software - attempted to restore ipod but got error in middle of it - resynched. It continues to always think its plugged in and cannot turn it off. It just dim and doesn't stay completely off. Its a little over a year old so no warranty. Any advise? I've taken apart and repaired laptops - can this be self-repaired somehow?

I have the same problem, in where it thinks its always charging and iTunes wont pick the iPod up, but it will play and take a charge from a mains charger. I dont get the 'Do not disconnect' screen though.
.BUT I can get around it although the problem does come back.
This works for me 1st time OR after a few attempts - -
Connect you Ipod to your computer (iTunes shouldn't pick it up if your having the same problem as me, as it thinks its still connected previously)
Now try resetting the iPod whilst still connected (holding the middle + centre button)
Now if you get the 'USB connection sound' let your computer and iTunes pick it up.
Once recognised, use the "Safely Remove Hardware" option via windows (dont eject with iTunes).
Then try using the mains power charger to give it quick charge, you should then be able to unplug the charger to see if the loss in connection has been recognised and u lose the charging lightening flash icon.
You should then get away with charging or using iTunes a few times without the problem re-occuring.
This does work, but not a permanent fix as I still have the problem.
Question - Does using the restore option work? As I refuse to wipe my music and carefully perfected playlists.

Just Hold Down The Menu And Select (The Middle Round Button) For About 5-15 Seconds And It Should Reboot Itself
