20 Most Recent Sony BDP-S300 Blu-Ray Disc Player - Page 9 Questions & Answers

Hello,

how long have you been using this player? I suspect the laser (lens) of the player. I think the laser (lens) is weak that's why it cannot read data/files on DVD discs.

To confirm if actually its a laser problem, insert an Audio CD into the player and see if will play. If it plays, then obviously, your laser (lens) is weak. But if it doesn't play Audio CD, then it might still be the laser (lens) or a mechanism problem.

Get a lens cleaner, use it to clean the lens. If that doesn't solve the problem, get a screw driver, open the player's cover so that you can gain access to the lens, use a cotton board to clean the surface of the lens. This should clean dust or dirt that might be on the lens.

If non of the above solves the problem, then know that you need to replace the laser to a brand new one.

To replace the lens, remove the bad laser, use it as a sample to get exactly the same type and do the replacement. Note that replacing a laser (lens) needs a professional touch, so if you cannot replace the laser, get it to a repairman to fix it for you.

Once this us done, your player will play all DVD discs again.

Good luck.

HI, what can make a Sony BDP-S300 displays "cannot play this disc",most cases are WEAK DVD LENS..

When the lens of a DVD player is getting to worked out, it begins to fail to do the work required of it..

To solve the problem, You will have to replace the Lens of the DVD player.

But before replacing the lens, You can attempt cleaning it up by using a lens cleaner, which you can possibly get from your nearest store in you area..instruction on how to clean the lens always comes in the lens cleaner.

After Cleaning up the lens, and still does displays "cannot play this disc",That mean, it is time for you to replace the lens.

You can replace the lens from your local DVD repair store around you..

Hope it helped..

Good luck..

it means that netflix is down right now. Netflix problably got hacked in one way or another... or they might just be doing maintenance or something like that. On the bright side, your player is fine.

that is unless your pandora and hulu and others are not working too...if nothing is working then your usb device may be overheated or connection down.

hope this helps,
B-Rob

Thank you for posting to Fixya.com and it is my pleasure to guide you.

1. The disc may be turned over. Insert the disc with the playback side facing down.

2. The disc may be dirty. Wipe it with the correct type rag.

Since you stated the display is showing then I take it the player is on and the chord is plugged in.

3. Is the disc completely centered in the tray? I have done that before.

4. Have you run the self-diagnosis function? If the Error code 'AACS ERR' shows then it is an "AACS read failure". Remove the protected disc. Then turn the unit off and wait a minute or two and back on.

Good luck and please post back that you are successful and give thumbs up if my solution has worked for you. If I can be more helpful just reply.

  • Here is the page that offers the ready support for the Omni BluRay model OBDP1000 http://www.olinlivenow.com.au/support/product-support-information.aspx?PartNo=OL-OBDP1000 I tried 3 times to access firmware from the and it only brings up the manual. Being a discontinued item you will need to contact them and see if Omni can offer a firmware update for you. I am sure they can it is just not ready available because it is not "the newest item" for them.
  • Hope this helps. Thank you for choosing FixYa

f-402 surface mount FUSE open on servo board. Sony has a bulletin on this problem. Check to see if the fuse is open with a continuity checker or ohm meter.

The BR disks aren't just simple movie files burned on a piece of plastic, they are effectively a very complicated program loaded on a disk that require a specialized Operating System to run. If the firmware (the embedded OS of the player) is too old or too weak it cannot play the disk. You will need to update the firmware to the latest version.
You will find it here, with all the information on how to do it

Hey,
The only logical solution that comes to me is that the DVD might be corrupt. Have you tried inserting other DVDs? If they work, then this DVD might have a problem. If they don't work either, then make sure the DVD is placed in the right direction and fits perfectly in the slot.
Let me know if you were able to get it to work!

clean lens with cotton..extra care not to touch with bare hands..
Note: if it says 'NO DISC" immediately after closing then check capstan motor if spins smoothly..the one spinning the disc..

I was able to fix this on my BDP-S350 by resetting to factory defaults and pulling the power cord on the system. It takes approximately 1 minute for the capacitor to completely drain the power. Once I replugged and powered up the system I was able to play a disc that minutes before had said "cannot operate this disc." Hope that helps.
