I have a Pioneer Plasma

It could be either the main or power board causing this...if your able and comfortable doing it remove the back and look for PSON on the connector legend and test the voltage on that pin, it should change when you push the power button, when I say change some sets use negative and some positive signal to tell the power board its time to come out of sleeping mode and go to work..if you see for example 6 volts with it off and it goes to 3 then the main is working or if you see 3 when its off and it goes up to 6 its also working, you want to see a change in that rail...if you see it change then the power board is bad and needs replacing

My Pioneer PDP 4280HD powers off after about

looks like, it is a thermal shutdown issue. Try the following: Keep a fan and direct the air towards the bottom vent holes. Switch on the TV. Keep it on continuously for more than 2 hours and see if the TV shuts off again. If not, then it confirms Thermal shutdown. Check if you have kep any papers, cloth etc very close to TV. Keep the TV ventilated. Let there be air circulation. Here is the service manual for your set, it includes the trouble shooting guide and what the codes mean. There is a lot in here and these are not easy to come by, so look at it and you can decide if you have an issue that it covers or not. these things are not easy to diagnose over the web, but we do try. I just hate spending peoples money on repairs if I am not 100% shure of the issue.

This sounds like a heat issue because it comes back on, if it were a bad board they usually don't come back on when they fail.

My Pioneer PDP-4280HD Plasma -

My research into your set and its TV Guide feature brought up two points that may be relevant:

  1. It apparently takes about 24 hours for the guide to load up completely. This would make it difficult to get real-time info as to whether it was working or not.
  2. 'TV Guide' may not work will all providers, and may not work as providers switch to digital. Have you spoken to your provider about possible compatibility?

I hope that helps

Pioneer PDP 507XDA 50-inch plasma TV. Sound but no picture. SOME CHANNELS WORK BUT OTHERS IS SCREEN SAVER WITH CHANNEL AUDIO.

Question edited for clarity. Great question Madeleine. The ones with Screen Saver and Audio are in Preview Mode. If you want to watch them, you have to subscribe. It is a tactic to get you hooked and get you to pay. Sometimes they will give you a couple of minutes of video and audio at the beginning of a programme. It isn't a television issue, it is your cable provider and a sales technique. ..
