Jenn-Air JED8230 Electric Cooktop - Page 6 Questions & Answers
I have a new Jenn-air ceramic cooktop- what do I do to clean it.
Greases lightning is a great cleaner for cooktops and work great on the grease filter it is sold at most stores. Be careful however when cleaning around the control knobs. They do have a rubber dust cover over each switch but if any fluid drips past it and into the switch it could short out the control.
Jenn Air cooktop JGD8130ADS - Propane to Natural Gas
propane has more BTU, so has a small hole, NG has a laeger hole, when i last called a plumber, all he did was remove them and drill a larger hole...i don't know what the hole size was, but thats what he did. hope this helps
Griddle needs to be cleaned
Slide an old towel underneath the griddle to protect any painted surfaces.
Then carefully spray easy off onto the surfaces, or, soak another towel in easy off or other cleaner, and lay on the soiled surfaces, pressing down to assure good contact. Lay another towel on top, and allow to lay there for awhile.
I really dont' think you've got anything to worry about. Most cooktops are today are powder coated, rather than laqeur painted. Powder coat is a hard, baked on surface. It won't solvent melt like finsihes of old.
Raplacing 3 wire cooktop with 4 wire cooktop
if you look in most panels the ground and the neutrals are tied to the same ground. they might be in a different location within the panel but they are common to each other. if you are concerned about having a seperate ground get yourself a ten foot, one inch diameter copper rod drive it into the ground about nine foot six inches. then mix up a strong salt water solution, about a couple of gallons and pour it around the rod. voilla, you have an independent ground. this might sound like a bunch of bull ----, but it is valid information. if you still have reservations call the building department in your town and they will verify it for you.
Downdraft exhaust not working properly
I pumped out water that somehow collected in the exterior exhaust pipe. Even though there is a hood on the outdoor pvc pipe, it still filled with water; not sure how but after extracting the water, the fan works great now.
Vent Cleaning Problem
Hello.
Down drafts are one of the biggest pains in the neck to work on, because one has to get underneath the cook top, and remove the duct, then the blower motor, and then the cover that is over the part that goes up and down. That is if the contractor who put it in didn't build shelves around it or put a bunch of drawers in front of it. So there you have it. It is not easy to clean it. You have to be prepared to disassemble it and try and put it back together properly. One time a customer paid me to have me completely dissassemble the inside of her refrigerator because some bad fish had leaked into everything and she wanted to clean it. You could always do that.
Cook top exhaust
no. jenn-air never has had a good vent. they have always been weak. im sorry theres nothing you can do
Electical problem?
You really shouldn't have tried this. If you mixed up the neutral and hot wire YOU COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED!!!! You also could have burned out the fan motor. The fan operates on 120 volts the rest on 220. On most cooktops the frame is grounded to the neutral. If you connected this wrong the entire outside of the cooktop could be live. You might not be shocked if you have on rubber shoes but if you touched the stove barefooted you could be killed! The house wire should have 2 hot wires usuallly black or red. It really doesn't matter which is which. There should be a neutral (usually white or bare) There can also be a seperate ground wire (usually green or bare) If only 3 wires from house connect the white and green together. The minimum wire size should be #10 fused at 30 amps. Test the voltage between the 2 hot wires. It should be 220. Between either hot wire and neutral or ground should be 110 volts .. IF YOU DON"T KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING CALL SOMEONE ELSE. This is very dangerous if hooked up wrong.
Both burners turn on when only one is needed
I just had the same problem- when I replaced the whole cartridge.
I repalced the infinite switch- do the one that gets the hottest- or do both.
It is easy to do- just write down the wiring diagram - make sure all power is off- cost of new switch was about $37.00
This solved the problem- however make sure to check the sizng on the new switch shaft as my old knob would not fit properly on the shaft of the new switch.
good luck
Old jennair cooktop
The wiring diagram is pasted on the inside of the panel you remove to get to the wiring. If no wiring diagram The blower operates on 110 volts not 220 So the wire goes from one of the hot sides (Black or red) to the switch controlling the fan to the motor , from the motor to the neutral (white/Bare) wire terminal. Pilot light for fan is attached to the same wires as the motor. If you don't know what you are doing disconnect all wires from the burner switches to the fan motor. This will mean you have to switxh on the fan yourself whenever you need it.
JED8230ADB down draft
Please don't buy another one!!! This is the most poorly designed cooktop made. You would be much happier with another brand. If you really want a treat try Thermador. I had a Jenn Air installed on an outside wall and vented directly outside, It still set off the smoke detector constantly. Very hard to clean., Very poor burners both open coil and smooth top.
Cooktop problem
i have replied in the premium service sir..
dont forget to accept the solution if u go by it.
Jen Air left front small burner does not heat up.
these are cartridge elements corrrect? try reversing the cartidges, now the front small will become the rear small . does it not work in this position? and the newly placed front burner work?? this will determine if the proble lies within the cartridge or the switches
