My JCD2289AES refridgerator seems to

Hello,
Do you see frost build up in the freezer on the back wall? if you do see frost build up its going to be a defrost problem and the frost build up has blocked proper airflow into/out of the refrig side. Here is what to check to fix it so it defrost automatically as its supposed to;

DEFROST HEATER ...remove back wall of freezer and you will see a black heater at the bottom of the coil thats frosted up,it looks similar to the bake element in your oven,or in some cases it is going to be a spiraled wires inside of a glass tube. To check it,use a multimeter set to the lowest ohms of resistiance setting and follow and find the wires at the top of that frosted coil,unplug/disconnect those wires and check for continuty with around 5-20 ohms of resistiance. If it has that amount of ohms the heater is good. If your meter display does not change or displays OL the defrost heater is broke and needs to be replaced

DEFROST TERMINATION THERMOSTAT... it's round and has 2 wires and clips to the top of that frosted up coil. IT MUST BE CHECKED WHEN COLD SO BEST TO DO WHEN FROST IS STILL BUILT UP. To check it disconnect the wires on it and check for ZERO ohms of resistiance. As with the heater if the meter display OL or doesnt change,it is the problem

DEFROST CONTROL...it is hard to check for a semi unskilled person and if the heater or defrost t-stat check good its going to be the problem. It will NOT be in the freezer it could be on back wall or inside the control panel in the refrigerator section.

Good luck,
Gene

I have a Jenn-Air refrigerator

Yes it could be either, BUT I would go back and make sure that everything you did to stop it the first time is undone. Is everything setted correctly? Is the switches in the right place?

Neither the solenoid or the microswitch could cause the problem you had before, so I would suspect something is not right with the ice maker itself.

The frig/freeze has stopped cooling

Hello,

Welcome to FixYa.

I suspect by your description the fridge either has a faulty overload protector or the compressor itself is seized. Hence when the overload reset's it try's to start, however the overload then trips and the stops while the compressor never starts, thus you hear it "clicking" and not cooling.

If you feel like you can trouble shoot further I`ve provided the following info to assist you or you may decide to call a professional appliance technician as I would suggest.

I don`t know the age of your fridge, but I should mention...

** Most of the manufacturers of fridges have 5 to 10 years sealed system warranty which would include the compressor but not the electrical starting devices i.e., the overload & relay. Check your owners manual, it is the ultimate authority on warranty no matter what anyone else tells you according to.**

If you have a multi- meter you can check the compressor to see if the windings are ok.

**First, Unplug the fridge**

Remove the panel at the back down at the bottom. This should gain you access to the compressor.

On the side of the compressor will be the start relay/overload assembly such as this image...it may be enclosed in a black plastic cover as well.

2234770.jpg

Pull off the relay & overload and you'll see 3 pins in the form of a triangle...

ffd3e9e.jpg
With a meter measure between any 2 pins at one time, going between each pin with one remaining on a "common" pin.

You'll want 3 measurement's, similar to this example- 6ohms, 3ohms, and 9ohms.

On some meters you may simply get a reading of "0" ohms, as long as the needle moves off of "infinity" which would indicate an "open" winding=not good !

If following that, the readings are good, purchase a hard start kit. Part # HS410 also known as a 3in1 starter kit.

i.e.

775ec2d.jpg

The above package contains info and hardware on how to connect it.

NOTE : the HS410 ( 3 in 1 ) should be considered just a temporary "fix" as opposed to an actual "repair" in should not be relied on for long term reliability or safety, but rather thefactory replacemnet, double check with your model number.

Hope that help`s move you forward if nothing else. If so please take a second and rate the reply and a testimony to your inquiry you received here at FixYa.

Thank you and good luck.

Regards,

Macmarkus :)

I have a JSD2789AES Jenn-Air.

The ice maker not making ice.The first thing is to check that is the ice maker is getting filled with water to make ice.In case if its not filling with water then, the ice fill tube in the ice chamber has to be checked.Either the tube is blocked or clogged by ice or the tube is got loose on either of its end.Or the tube is kinked.First check that. Now if the water is passing from the tube but not entering the ice dispenser assembly then its faulty solenoid valve ,the valve is at the back of ice-maker unit. This valve is dual valve. One is for water dispenser and other is for ice dispenser. But in either case the solenoid valve has to be replaced. If ice maker or water dispenser not working. But if the water is filling properly in the ice-maker unit and ice maker is not making ice then this is the fault of thermostat in the ice maker. the thermostat is in the ice-maker and above the heating coil.Check fig below:--- helpmech_0.png
To see the big view of the picture please click on the link below:--- http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/partsdirect/showSubComp.pd?imageUrl=http://c.searspartsdirect.com/lis_png/PLDM/X2906175-00012.png --------- now in the picture the part number 13 is thermostat. The part number 4 is valve(solenoid valve). Part number 6-7-8-9- are the tube where ice gets clogged and from where water passes. ------------ The cost of water valve is near to $42 and you can get this from the link below.Click on the link. http://www.repairclinic.com/PartDetail/Water-Inlet-Valve/936009 -----------The cost of thermostat is near to $32 and you can order the part from the link below:--Click the link. http://www.repairclinic.com/PartDetail/Tray-Thermostat/2942 ----------- and for ice getting blocked in the tube ,you can use hair dryer to melt that ice. This will help.Thanks.Helpmech.
