The connecting cable or the video card would be the first suspects. Try a different cable to connect the monitor first, if there is no change, the video card in the computer would be second to look at. I would suggest trying your xbox on another monitor to be sure the xbox is not the problem.

Most new LCD tv and monitors color,brightness,vert.hold, horz.hold,resolution, ect., are all controlled by a single programmed EEPROM, that costs more to replace than a new monitor/tv. You pay for the programming, not the chip.
