Gaggia Classic Spurts Everywhere

Hi there if your coffee is spurting out the sides it is because the group gasket is worn or has gone hard through use and now needs replacing. Basically when you twist your coffee handle on it doesn't always form a perfect seal and so the pressure causes the coffee to spurt out the sides. If you are not sure where to get parts get in touch with David at [email protected] and he will be able to sort you out.

My machine is making coffee but is not heating the

Does the machine heat in steam mode? If so then the brew thermostat has probably failed. If it wont heat in either mode then the heating element(s) may be gone or the middle switch could possibly have failed. In 220- 240 Volt countries the 2 heating elements are wired together (in series) so if even only one goes then the other wont function either. Having said that, the heating elements rarely go in these machines.
Remove top panel (power disconnected) and check the resistance of the thermostats, elements and check for continuity at the middle switch terminals. Can't remember how the thermal fuse is wired but check continuity of this if the other suggestions don't work ( with most appliances the thermal fuse being blown will cut power to the whole unit but as I have never seen one blow on a classic I am not sure in this case).

No water coming through coffee filter. I have

If you open the steam tap while the pump is running does water come out? if so then you might have a blockage in the coffee solenoid or the bottom of the boiler. Do you hear a 'click' sound when you hit the coffee switch? If not the coffee solenoid may not be operating. The most common cause of the problem you are having though, is scale flaking off the boiler walls causing a blockage where the coffee water comes out. Try hiting the coffee switch, opening the steamer and then if water starts pumping out, close the steamer and see if water starts flowing out the coffee group. Do this without the portafilter (coffee holder) in place.
If you do get water flowing trough the group, try backwashing the machine.
If these things dont help then you should take it to an authorised repairer or open up the boiler yourself if you are a handy person and have access spare parts. Good luck, these machines can make a great espresso when in the right hands and working order.

My Gaggia Classic has developed a problem. It

Do a descaling

I recommend using a proper citric acid based descaling solution designed for espresso machines. This should be mixed and prepared as per the instructions on the bottle or packet. Definitely DON'T use vinegar, it's not good for your espresso machine.

You need to descale your coffee machine while it's cold. Put the prepared descaling solution into the water reservoir, turn on the machine and pump water (not steam) through the steam nozzle for about 20 seconds. If your espresso machine doesn't have the facility to pump water this way then pump it through the group handle without the handle in place. Immediately turn off the machine.

Your espresso machine is now cold with the descaling solution inside the water components. The limescale will be dissolving while you wait. After about 10 minutes turn the machine on again and pump more water through for about 1 minute. Turn the coffee machine off again and wait for the descaling solution to do its work.

While you're waiting for the descaling solution to eat away at the limescale build up, take the opportunity to clean other parts of your coffee machine. Pull apart your group handle and clean it out. Get all the burnt milk off the steam spout and wipe the outside of the machine.

Keep repeating the steps above until the water reservoir is empty. All the solution should have been pumped through the machine and the limescale will have been removed. This should take about 5 cycles and about 1 hour.

You now need to clean the bitter tasting descaler from your espresso machine. Thoroughly rinse the water container in your machine and fill it with fresh clean water. Run the entire container through your machine. Repeat this process again and your coffee machine or espresso machine is now descaled!! Make at least one coffee and throw it out to make sure all the descaling solution is gone.

Water leaks around groop

There is a gasket "o" ring around the group where the filter sits. This it might be dirty or tear out. Try to clean with brush and if you still have leak then replace it. Visit Partsguru.com for the brush and other parts

The water spray head is clogged up with pieces of scale. You'll have to take it off and rinse it out. If necessary, use a pin to pick the scale out of the holes in the spray head.

Gaggia classic light not working

You state there is no lights, but does the pump work? If there is not power at all (no pump & no lights) then the problem is most likely the thermal fuse. Radio shack sells these and the barrel clips to attach. Will cost no more than five dollars for everything.

Gaggia won't prime

Put a cup under the steam wand and then open the steam valve while turning the pump on. Once you have pumped a few ounces of water out of the steam wand you can close the valve and it will start pushing water through the grouphead.

Hi, My Gaggia Classic is not working. No water

try to clean the group shower which it can be ansrew by one cetrer screw and if you can you can open the machine and remove to clean also the coffee group solenoid valve. Bothe the valve and shower can be full of dry coffee that can blocked the way of water coming to the grounded coffee.
If you manage to clean everything above and the machine work ok so from now on in order to avoid the problem again try to flush water from the group many times without any coffee. With this is like you wash the group shower and valve from any remai coffee.
Good luck
