Woops -the blinking amber light of doom is a common fault on dells -
usually
a solid amber is the Power supply while a blinking one indicates Motherboard problems.
If machine is still under warranty dell will replace it.
If not then it will cost you to have them replaced.

Try downloading the latest Graphic drivers. You will need to check if you have a ATI or NVidia graphics card.

when i plug certain devices into my usb ports it doesnt recognize them. somethings is wrong with all of my usb ports
If they were working before, just reboot. If they never have, I would reccomend contacting whoever you bought the computer from and asking if it's under warranty.

When I try to open the "DISPLAY" option in my control panel, I get the following error message....
RUNDLL
An exception occured while trying to run "C:\windows\system32\shell32.dll,control_rundll"C:\windows\system32\desk.cpl",display"
Any ideas on what's causing this?
Dear sir,
Welcome to Fixya.
Rundll error is observed when computer is attacked by viruses and spyware.I think your computer is infected by virus and spyware. You can remove the viruses and spyware by using good Antivirus software, but if you want to get rid of all errors permenantely, solution is format your pc and reinstall your operating system then install good antivirus.
I think it helps

Computer beeps twice at power up and will not start up. I get an error message that the following file is missing or corrupt
windowssystem32configsystem. I have installed the original set up CD-ROM and hit ''r'' to repair as prompted, but nothing happens
i think you have motherboard problem or problem with the RAM ...
try to replace the RAM and then start the machine...
if the problem persists ...to install a new copy of windows

How do i restore my dell e520 back to factory settings I no longer have the boot cd and it's an xp pc. Please help - I can no longer use the mouse or keyboard when windows buts up but I can get onto tho bios!
xp is kind of not supported as much anymore by Microsoft.
Vista will soon be this way as well.
If you lost the installation cd then you are out of luck.
Try getting windows 7 full version and installing it on the machine, if it's worth the money to you to try to revamp this computer.

I have a Dell Dimension E520 running Vista Home Premium 32bit OS and would like to install Windows 7 64bit OS. The motherboard is a Dell E210882 and I beleive is 32bit only. My processor is a Intel (R) Core (TM) 2 CPU 4300@ 1.80GHz 1.79GHz I beleive will support 64bit My question, can I upgrade this Computer to a 64bit without changing the Motherboard. If it possible, can I upgrade the memory using the same four slots using 4 2GB, after all this the whole purpose of to 64bit.
Yes you will be able to install Windows 7 64 bit on this system without replacing the motherboard , but the main problem here is the driver for Windows 7 64 bit for the system since it don;t have enough drivers for all the devices on it.

Dell Dimension E520 blinking amber light monitor keyboard mouse dark
HERE is a link directly from dell as to what the lights mean and possible solutions. sounds like you may have a failed component on the motherboard or a bad powersupply
