You need to download the driver software ( same you got in the disk ) from Lexmark website.
Download software into the computer where you are going to install the printer. It is important that you do not connect the printer before installing software.
Install the software downloaded and connect printer only when explicitly required by software setup program.

You don't need to create disk from the download. Just download to the PC and run the install

Yes .. The cartridges can dry up and or nozzles/heads get plugged. I ma not completely familiar with this printer but if it has a cleaning utility use it.

You downloaded from the correct site. It is compatible with Vista. Sounds like a download that got corrupt along the way while downloading.

Did you download the file:
cjrZ500-Z600EN.exe ?

Delete the file you downloaded and try again. Except this time, SAVE the file to your desktop perhaps.. (doesn't matter where.. just don't select RUN when you click to download the file)

If you cannot run any other programs.. and get Invalid Win32 application for other items.. then you may have a problem with file association. Can you run any other exe programs?

open "control panel"in windows select fax and printer icon this will show you available printers make sure you lexmark is selected as default printer if not listed there then re intall the printer software and driver from the disk that came with it, your driver is lost meaning no real printer available so yor system has no choice but to offer "print to file option"

open flap to access cartridges hold down power button untill cartridges move to centre remove and reinstall cartridges set them as new in the pop up box window and print a test page worked 4 me,i had a continuous flashing green light
