Had the same issue. I had to have the drum cartridge replaced - expensive exercise! (Then I bought a Mac and there are no drivers for the printer, so I have an expensive doorstop)

This issues looking printer head problem. check the following Steps for cleaning printer head :

Click on the Start button if you have Windows XP. If you have Windows Vista, click the Windows icon that resides in the lower left corner of your computer screen.

Click on "Control Panel," then "Printers and Other Hardware." Finally click on "View Installed Printers or Fax Printers."

Right-click on the name of your printer and choose "Printing Preferences." This should open a new window; next look for a tab or button marked Maintenance, or something similar.

Find the button that says "Print heads" or "Clean the Print heads" and click on it. You may be asked to choose which print heads; choose them all if you are. Make sure there is paper and ink in your printer, and that it is turned on ahead of time.

Take out the page your printer has printed and see if there are any grids or boxes missing. If there aren't, then you can just exit the program--your print heads are not clogged. If there are grids missing, then click on the "Cleaning" or similarly worded button.

Once the cleaning process has completed, print another page to be sure that your print heads are no longer clogged. If they are still clogged, repeat Steps 1-5 until your printer is printing clearly.

I see, they are the only ones who will have the driver, and the most recent one to date is 10.5 as you said you already have.

This unfortunately is the drawback with having the most recent operating system version; certain drivers and devices may not have updated drivers may not function or work properly at all or even get damaged!! A tip for future reference would be to check all your drivers before upgrading, but that's obvious now i guess.

Judging from the driver list; they have updates for 10.2, 10.3, 10.4 and 10.5 pointing to that you will have to wait until they come out with 10.6 and finally 10.7 (unless by then you have 10.8 lol).

Perhaps you can roll back your version of operating system to 10.5 for now ? Otherwise you can watch the dust pile up on that heavy ol' dust magnet. :(

Hope that's helpful

I recently got the LBP 6300dn Laser and had similar issues. I initially had 1 router which was wireless and a switch to connect a wired pc and the printer in another location, both via Ethernet. was having major problems as when the printer went idle it would not show up as connected. so got rid of the switch and connected laser printer to the router. same problem.
After lots of trial an error I think I have found a FIX!!!
go into devices and printers then right click the printer to get printer properties. go to the ports tab and click on configure port. Then disable "SNMP status enabled" at the bottom and thats it! been running my laser printer now only connected via Ethernet for a few hours now and no disconnection!

-the canon laser shot LBP-5200 printer is making squeaking noise most likely the printer needs cleaning or oiling as well, if you are not familiar w/ the cleaning or oiling it up, you can bring it to a local repair center, if it is still in warranty w/ canon you can call them up and have them fixed that printer for you.
