What is a PF kit

This is a "Paper Feed" kit and comprises several small pieces including rollers, springs and friction separator pad. Some models have several of these and will be named "PF1 kit", "PF2 kit" etc normally one for the manual feed tray and one for the paper drawer. If you look at the front of the paper drawer, you will see a spring loaded friction pad in the centre used to hold back all but one sheet of paper. Directly above this in the printer chassis will be a loose rubber roller assembly which grabs the sheet of paper. together, this collection of parts is called a "PF kit". The printer memory counts the number of pages fed and will count down an estimated useful life of these parts but this is at best a "guess". When they will no longer reliably feed fresh new paper without jamming, they probably need replacing.

Brother MFC-8460N ... No Paper response

I had the same problem with a customer, to resolve this issue:

> Go to the printers folder
> Right click on the printer
> Go to printing preferences
> Under the paper source settings change it from autoselect to Tray1 and save the settings.

This will force the printer to print to tray1.

That fixed it for me, hope it works for you too.

HELP! Brother MFC-8460 "Toner Life End" won't clear

The problem with a new toner cartridge that will not signal the printer that it has been changed has to do with a gear positioned wrong on the new or rebuilt cartridge... we had 3 factory brand new toners that would not clear the replace the toner message... I finally found the following link that came from a toner company that sells refills that tells how to reposition the gear to let the machine know a new cartridge has been installed. I did the proceedure on pages 5 & 6 having to reposition the gear and all cartidges then worked flawless... it works.

What does a belt life ends soon mean, on a brother MFC 9440ch color laser printer?

Are you sure of the error message? The Brother printers that I have used have Drum Ends Soon and Change Belt messages. The Brother MFC-9440CN has a belt that can be replaced. The Belt unit has an life expectancy of ~50000 pages. The belt unit is part BU100CL and costs a bit over $150 at office supply stores. Amazon.com and some other stores have the unit for under $100. http://www.amazon.com/Brother-BU-100CL-HL-4040CN-HL-4070CDW-Series/dp/B000SC245E is one source. When the unit says Change Belt Unit, follow the directions from the manual's maintenance section to replace the belt unit. See page 178 (page 189 of the PDF) http://welcome.solutions.brother.com/BSC/public/files/dlf/doc002252/mfc9440_usa_usr_b.pdf . You have to remove the Drum and then the Belt Unit. Then slide in the new Belt Unit and replace the Drum unit. Then close the printer and turn it on. Finally reset the counter from the Machine Info sub menu (press Menu 8 4 and select the Belt Unit and press OK. Then press 1 followed by Stop/Exit). If you mean the Drum Unit, that is part DR-110CL and costs over $175 at the office supply stores. Order this part when the Drum End Soon message appears and replace it if the print quality deteriorates (or when you have the new drum). The Drum Life is ~17000 pages. The steps start on page 166 (182 of the PDF). You need to remove the old Drum unit. Then remove the toner cartridges from the drum. Prepare the new Drum Unit, including putting the cartridges in the new Drum. Then replace the Drum unit and reset the counter. I hope this helps. Cindy Wells

18. Close the front cover.

20. Put the paper tray firmly back in the machine.

21. Take out any paper from the ADF (automatic document feeder) that is not jammed. Open the ADF cover. Carefully pull out the jammed document to the left. Check for and remove any small pieces of paper stuck in the machine. A small piece of paper stuck in ADF will cause a document jam.

reyjoshua07_17.gif

25. Press Stop/Exit. Make a Copy to test. Before placing your document(s) in the ADF verify the error message "Document Jam" in no longer displayed on the LCD. If the error message continues to appear on the LCD, please contact Brother Customer Service from "Contact Us". Verify the ADF document support (located on the top of the ADF) is pulled out. Verify the document(s) are between 5.8 to 8.5 in. wide and 5.8 to 14in. long. Make sure the documents are inserted face up in the ADF, top edge first. The ADF can hold up to 50 pages and feeds each sheet individually. Use standard 20 lb (80 g/m²) paper and always fan the pages before putting them in the ADF.

Note:
DO NOT use paper that is curled, wrinkled, folded, ripped, stapled, paper-clipped, pasted or taped. DO NOT use cardboard, newspaper or fabric. Make sure documents written with ink are completely dry. Adjust the paper guides to fit the width of your documents. This ensures the document(s) will feed straight, preventing jams. Make a copy listed below:
For MFC users :
Press Start.
For DCP users :
Press Copy located below the LCD and then press Start.

Hope it helps.
