No you don't need a driver. These are very plain powered speakers that come with a mains adapter and a lead with a 3.5mm stereo jack at both ends. Plug one in the speaker and the other into the headphone jack on the front or the speaker socket on the back which will either be a socket on the motherboard, or if your son put a sound card in the computer, it will be in a sound card. When I Google the model number the first thing that shows is Replacement LCD Screens for it which leads me to believe there is an issue with them. There is three parts to the display, the video card section, the exciter module and the screen itself. It needs correct diagnosis, or buy a new one now you have reset it clean, if that is what you mean by 'hard restart'? You might mean 'hard boot', power off and back on without proper shutdown.
